Errors / Connection drop on extended phone jack

$

We have been having intermittent issues where our dsl line will drop and we will lose connection for a minute or two. This can happen multiple times within a few minutes. I had the modem plugged into a phone jack which I added myself which is piggybacked off of the 1 phone jack which existed originally. I then ran phone line through a side attic to another other room to add this new phone jack. When the modem is plugged into the new phone jack the signal quality seems to be worse, there are many more FEC errors and the connection will drop. When I use the existing outlet, the connection does seem to be stable (no drops, hardly any errors), so it seems like it must be something related to the extended outlet. Any ideas on what the issue could be? I'm wondering if it could be a temperature thing, should I be using some kind of outdoor rated phone line?

Hello all:) first time here and i hope its good:) I found this place because for the last month i have been beating my head against my keyboards. I have finally come to the conclusion that centurylink blocks the ssh protocol, not the port, but the actual service?? is this accurate? if not then something is really messed up on my end haha. thanks

C3000Z - Can't make any changes to 5g wifi

Very recently received this modem upgrade from Centurylink. All seems fine until you try to make any changes to the 5g network. Instead of the changes to the 5g being applied to 5g they are applied to 2.4g I've tried both these firmwares with a factory reset and its the same on both. CZD003-4.16.009.47 CZD005-4.16.011.0 I got some time off work next week to get in touch with Centurlylink and hopefully get a new router sent out but was hoping someone here could tell me what is going on with this router?

Drayek Vigor 130 firmware to use with CenturyLink

So here is the issue. I upgraded my Vigor 130 to a Vigor 2762. Getting the 2762 to talk to CenturyLink took awhile but I finally got the correct firmware and settings correct so I am golden and have 0 problems with 2762. As for the 130 it worked perfectly at my house, but now at daughters house, being the LAST home on a DSLAM run, well life has not been good. We want to stay with single line if we can. What I have been looking for is the vectoring firmware everyone is using that performs well the CenturyLink. At my house, firmware 3.8.4_modem_8 works and I get VDSL with vectoring when look at the modem connection page. So my question is, is this the correct firmware for CenturyLink or should I try something else. Please no guesses here, just an answer from someone who knows the modem and has had experience with the vectoring issue.

[Qwest] Getting Faster Speeds (Who to ask for it & Possible?)

Trying to convince Centurylink to increase my speed, these are my stats for DSL 1 & DSL 2. I currently have 20/2 bonded. There are a few house further from me that are able to get 40/2 that are being feed from the same DSLAM from what I talked to from a local tech, but he wasn't willing to even go an extra mile for me. My lines from what I understand is able to support at least 40/2, but I don't really know who I should get in contact to look at my lines and be able to override the system. Should I try driving down the the Central Office or is there a number to call other then the standard support line?

[Qwest] 2000ms ping times - bad modem?

Over the past few months I've noticed my ping times are becoming outrageous. Ping times went from 48ms to the next hop up to 2100 ms. When I reboot my modem, it would clear up and I get reliable ping times again. But tonight when I power cycled it, the ping times went up within half an hour. The modem is an Actiontec GT784 that's probably 9 or more years old by now. Is it time for a new modem or must I get my ISP and Centurylink involved? I'm in an suburban area, but since I'm at the end of my street and all the utilities are buried, CenturyLink isn't offering anything over 3Mbit. Hi All - Need to see if anyone can help decoding something. I have been trying for nearly 36 days to get FTTP installed at my home. CenturyLink has run the fiber to the side of my home. However, the order is now placed in a scheduling limbo for a Job Description of "Referral (Cable Demand)". Anyone know means?

Home Phone Install

I called CL today and added home phone to my internet. Install is scheduled for tomorrow. I have a few questions regarding the install. 1. My house is fed by a single pair drop wire, can they use that one pair for both my internet and phone, or will they replace the drop? 2. Will someone come out to my house, or is this done remotely, if so, how do they do it remotely?

Connected to my router via Cat 5e and speeds are fine all day until 8pm till around 11pm. I am on Centurylinks 100mbps Fiber to the home and yes I am certain its FTTH I use a ONT. On the download end it drops to around 10mbps and upload stays at around the normal 50mbps. I also notice a increase in jitter and ping times. What could be causing this? I've tried different cables as well as different router/testing device.

Port Forwarding Limit on C1100Z Changed?

OK I live a ways outside Denver and only get 8.1/.892 Mbps DSL. I'm using a C1100Z and have 20+ IP cameras (obviously not all used at once) and therefore have 20+ Port Forwarding rules set up. I can no longer add new port forwarding rules as I get an error message saying there is a limit of 16 rules (even though I already have 20+ rules in the table). This change must have happened due to a firmware upgrade???? The C1100Z does indicate that there is newer firmware available, but when I click Download I get an error page from Centurylink saying there is problem with the page (don't know if a temporary problem or if C1100Z is just no longer supported). I'm reluctant to invest in a newer modem due to the low DSL speed available to me, but will if the newer modems allow greater than 16 port forwarding rules. Do the newer modems allow >16 rules? Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know if Centurylink is expanding territory/fiber in the Southcentral PA area? I'm in an area that has patches of Verizon Fios and Centurlink Fiber. Can't get Verizon Fios and don't have a timeline at all (of course). So, I was wondering if their was anyway see what Centurylink is up to.

WiFi slower than expected

Just switched from Comcast to CenturyLink VDSL2 bonded. I have an Asus RT-AC68U router (stock firmware) that was connected to the cable modem. Comcast service was 55 down/5 up. Speed tests over wifi were showing 60-65 down and 6-7 up. Now I have the Asus taking care of PPPOE and connected to the Actiontec C1900A which is in bridge mode untagged (wifi is off). Speeds are supposed to be 80/10. Over ethernet I get 78-80 down and 9-10 up so I know I'm getting advertised speeds. However, when I connect via wifi and run a speed test I get anywhere from 25-60 down and 9-10 up. I would normally chalk this up to interference but Comcast was consistently showing advertised speeds over wifi. Plus the upload speeds over ethernet and wifi stay around 9-10 so I'd expect it to be lower if it was interference related. It's just the download speeds that are so far off. The only thing that has changed is the router handling PPPOE. Is this expected behavior or is there some way to get better speeds over wifi?

Home phone dial tone

Hello, I have CL home phone and I used to be able to plug a phone into any jack in the house and i would have dial tone, but now only one jack works. Not even the phone port on the modem works, even though I have the phone on the same account as the DSL and the DSL is fine. The only jack that works is the one in my kitchen.

Just pull a connection?

So, story time I guess! This started over a month ago we'll say? My equipment is a C3000Z, brand new wiring installed in my house when I got CL a couple/few years ago. I live in a very middle class, smack dab center, of Phoenix. I think I've given the long story leaving Cox and eventually get a bonded pair at 80/10. So, I noticed at night my new puppy had dug a cable up and wondered if that explained a couple recent resets in my modem to get back to speed and such. Well, tech comes out and instantly says that's Cox's cable (both had to install new cables to the house as old owners literally cut them somehow or someone did) and their cable was still buried far underground and safe. He checks my stuff out anyway as I told him and he works his magic and replaces some bad connections at the dslam most likely causing my issues. He also says I'm set for 100/10 in the system but he doesn't know why and says my lines are too far for that at all, but he gets it to 90/10 and I get almost that in any speed test so I was happy. My stats are for line one: Downstream - SNR 12.4, Attenuation 14.6, and power 17.0 Upstream - SNR 11.8, attenuation 7.8, and power 8.7 Line two: Downstream - SNR 12.6, Attenuation 14.8, and power 17.0 Upstream - SNR 12.2, attenuation 6.5, and power 7.1 Estimated loop line length is 1720ft and 1760ft respectively. Which I didn't think was far, if the condo complex wasn't right next to me, I could throw crap at my DSLAM and hit it. I'm told I'm approximately 0.2 miles from the box, which means wiring has to follow a pretty logical path to my house for the lines to think that. Anyway, fast forward to the dreaded week afters Christmas. I noticed a couple neighbors have out CL techs fixing...who knows. Honestly I thought I was the only customer, almost everyone on the block uses Cox. I joked about getting fiber here (seriously CL, do it!!) with one even. That evening I get a complaint from the kid about youtube loading slowly. I reset the modem, fine. Not fine though, the last week my first DSL line was just not connected. Nothing registered by the modem, wouldn't even show a light. My second line worked, but it had horrible stats, mostly thinking it was approximately 3x further from the DSLAM than usual and would maybe only connect at 12 and routinely the internet would just time out. I could reset the modem, but that didn't' seem to help, just waiting. So I call in a repair ticket back in. Should have been done on Friday... but my wife couldn't be bothered to stay an extra 20 minutes as they showed up when she was leaving to go 'shopping'. Side note - anyone want a wife? So I had to wait until a lovely Sunday morning. Tech is out, gruff dude who knows his stuff. He sighs at the spaghetti connections in my alleyway and seems at least happy CL isn't coming off the telephone pole. He says it's mostly likely DSLAM issues. He goes to the DSLAM - he confirms basically someone just disconnected my first line and probably messed with something on the second. He seemed incredulous I had a guy out here just weeks ago - he knew I wasn't actually lying though. He fixes me up, connection is back at 90/10 and speedtest shows it's fine. Haven't had any drops or timeouts since (only been a couple hours). My question is, why would they pull a connection? I get if it's an accident, but you don't try to fix your mistake? I at least am lucky to have 2 lines and with one down it wasn't a disaster, but single line customers would be up the creek. After the slow initial set up story I won't go over and was just CL corporate and not real issues, until now I've had solid service. It's a bit worrying.

Centurylink Fiber IPV6

Hello, I have CL 100mb Fiber, How do I know if I am in an area that supports IPV6? Does anyone know how to set it up so I can use IPv6 instead of IPv4? I am using my own router with PPPOE. Anyone have a guide or anything, or can put me in the right direction? Also, I am not in a tagged vlan area. Thanks!

Will a disconnected phone # still have power at the drop box ?

In short, we haven't had landline phones in 10 years, don't know if our wiring even still works but centutylink dsl just became available at our address last week. I checked our outside interface box and it was dead, no dial tone or even a click, checked it with a multimeter and 0 volts. So is this normal (totally dead line) for a line with a disconnected number and it will come back up when the dsl activated, or should it still show about 50V even with no active phone number ?

remote VPN setup

Hey guys, I'm here because I get nowhere when I phone CL... I have a new VPN router that I need to configure without being on-site then turn theirs into a passthrough... I only have two questions... 1.) CL says my static IP is 1.2.3.4, what is the default gateway? 1.2.3.3 ? 2.) what is the correct setting for their modem to be turned into a passthrough? (there was three options when I checked the dropdown menu - I'm not in front of it to check right now) every little bit helps... and is appreciated! thank you in advance!
