We have had CL fiber going on 2 years now and can only get 100/50. About 6 months ago they had a link on the website that allows you to be notified when gigabit is made available. I got that email yesterday and as soon as I saw it called only to be told that email must be an error. You can imagine I was pretty pissed. I even checked our address and all it says is 100mb is the max I can get. Why even send the email out then? I also called later in the day and spoke to a sup and he said several people on our street have called because of the same email and they took my name and number and are suppose to be calling me back today. They said they had to look into it further. Has this happened to anyone else?
Thanks.

Connection issues in west central Iowa
Phone support and the online chat is really bugging me since I know these outages/drops are on CenturyLink's end, and I am getting the run around.
Here is the back story. The other day, the internet was out for 15 to 16 hours. I have other people that had the same issue in town/area. Since that day, I have been having long like a few hours and short outages like a few minutes. I have tried different a modem/router and a new line going to box on the house. All I am getting from support is reset the modem/router, reset the PPPoE, and send out a tech to check my system themselves. The issue is I know how my setup is, and it was just 100% fine before this 15 to 16 hour outage for months and even years. Plus I have networking background, and it seems like support is just ignoring this, too.
So I have checked my modem/router for any errors, and whenever the internet drops, the modem stays in sync for speeds, but I get PPPoE errors. With my router that has my PPPoE login, I keep on getting "pppd[549]: Timeout waiting for PADO packets" when ever it drops. I have told support this, but it seems like they keep on thinking my PPPoE username and password is wrong even tho is it is right. I have tried other hardware, and I still get this error whenever it drops too.
I just don't know how to get support to look into this issue.

Residential DSL servce - multiple PPPoE sessions allowed?
We have CenturyLink residential DSL service.
I did a little playing around today and put the CenturyLink provided DSL router into transparent bridged mode, and it looks like I can use the same PPPoE username and password to establish multiple concurrent PPPoE sessions. Each concurrent PPPoE session can pass data and get a public IP, and I can surf across all sessions at the same time.
I'm doing this multi-PPPoE setup because I'm using two separate routers to provide Internet (long story, but the basic gist is that our router is underpowered for the throughput of traffic, so we're splitting IPv6 6rd connectivity and IPv4 between two different routers).
Is there an extra charge for this? I don't own the account, so I can't call in and find out.

connection loss every 2 hours for about a minute
I'll try to make this not a longer story than it needs to be, but sorry, it's kind of long.
Many times a day, sometimes only a couple, sometimes 10+, wireless devices in my house lose internet connection for about a minute. All devices are dropped simultaneously. There are a lot of them: smart phones, computers, smart speakers, audio and video streaming devices, a thermostat, light bulbs, etc. I can't of course check them all every time in one minute, but as far as I can tell they all stop working and resume a minute or so later.
CL has been here three times to try to resolve the problem. They've done some wiring upgrades and they say the signals are all good. The problem has not been improved by this work. I have tried two different modem/routers (ActionTec C1900A and ZyXEL C1100Z) and the problem is more or less the same with either.
When the failure occurs there is no indication in the modem lights - they are all green and solid or flickering as normal. There is also no error in the modem system log. I conclude the DSL connection is not what is dropping.
The subject line says "every two hours". It's not exactly that, but why I mention it is because I think it should be a clue to somebody, though CL has never cared when I try to drive that point. I run a little ping loop on one of the laptops that logs when the network goes down. I ping several different addresses, and only report it as a failure if pings to 5 different sites fail. The log shows errors happening in the same minute of the hour, very often two hours apart, sometimes 4 hours, occasionally 1 hour, and occasionally a gap longer than two hours. But the occurrence at the same minute is very clear. I'll see the error logged at 2:57, 4:57, 6:58, 8:57.... maybe a few more. Then a gap, then it will start up again on a different minute. I have 8 days of log I could send but I don't think it would tell more than what I've said.
I've been at a loss to have a guess what could cause this in my house. So I have believed it has to be somewhere upstream in CL land. I have not enough expertise to have a guess what it could be.
Then there's one new datum that causes me to begin to think again maybe it's not a CL problem after all. All the devices in the house are normally wireless. So for the past couple days I've plugged the laptop that runs the ping loop into the modem/router with an ethernet cable. I have not seen a failure since then, although there continue to be errors with the wireless devices. So maybe being hard wire connected bypasses the problem. So it seems anyway. Still, what could kill the wifi for a minute every two hours?
I want to fix this problem. It's been going on for many months, maybe a year+, and has gotten pretty annoying. I am close to flinging money at it by switching to a mesh wi-fi system and put the modem in bridge mode, just use it as modem, on the idea that maybe it's a crappy wi-fi router but maybe the modem's DSL technology is OK.
Looking for a guru with an insight about this. Any takers?
Thanks - Bill

[CenturyTel] Upload Signal Quality?
Is there a way to test the quality of my upload signal? Reason I'm asking is that over the past week, it has become impossible to do any Twitch streaming due to very bad frame drops. I've not had an issue prior to this at all. Internet connectivity "feels" fine in every other regard, but when streaming from my ps4, the video quality is very bad / pixelated, and streaming from my PC via OBS is simply not possible due to the amount of frame drops happening.
I logged into the modem, but I could not find an area/section that would show line strength / quality. Everything I saw just described the connection I have (32Mb down / 2Mb up).

Anyone get an ASUS DSL-AC68U working with Centurylink?
I currently have an C1000A modem, it works fine, but was hoping for better wifi coverage, and the ability to failover to other internet options (like my tethered phone) if CL internet goes out. I know I can put the C1000 in bridge mode but wanted to try using the DSL-AC68U as both the modem and router if possible.
The only information I found is from a post here in 2015 that someone got it working in Seattle, but I've had no luck in Phoenix. My C1000A shows VDSL2, and I've tried using VLAN ID of 201 (and several other settings). The DSL-AC68U is on the latest firmware.
I've also tried the "Quick Internet Setup" but it never detects my DSL connection even though the DSL line is plugged in to the DSL port. I have a solid blue light on the DSL LED.
Anyone gotten one of these to work with CL?

Where to purchase modem
Hi all, currently have centurylink DSL (details below) and am looking for a replacement router for my actiontec GTWN784WN because most of the time I cannot access the GUI of the modem. Sometimes a reboot will fix it, other times I just acan;t get in, which is a shame because I like using the QOS feature of the modem
Anyway, what modem would you recommend and where can I purchase? I looked at amazon and they have the C3000Z for example. I thought Best Buy at one point had dsl modems but I can't find them now.

Internet problems when using router
I have a couple modems, c1000a, GT784WN.....I bought a Netgear R6700 router and it worked well for a while with modem in bridged mode. Then I started to get frequent disconnects from the internet. If I logged into the router and refreshed the WAN IP, it would work again for a while. DHCP was renewing every 30 minutes. It just seems like after a while it stopped working. I tried various combinations of modems and routers (I also have a Netgear R6260) with same result.
Any idea why this would be happening? I used to have a Linksys that didn't have any issues. I thought I could use any router if the DSL modem was in bridge mode, but I seem to be having trouble with these Netgears. Am I doing something wrong?

Centurylink Fiber IPV6
Hello,
I have CL 100mb Fiber, How do I know if I am in an area that supports IPV6? Does anyone know how to set it up so I can use IPv6 instead of IPv4? I am using my own router with PPPOE. Anyone have a guide or anything, or can put me in the right direction? Also, I am not in a tagged vlan area.
Thanks!

ActionTec C3000A vs ZyXel C3000Z . . .
Well my beloved C3000A died. I called Tech Support and since the C3000A was still under warranty they are sending a free replacement. I was told I'd be getting the C3000A's "Big Brother", the C3000Z. Really, is it the C3kA's "Big Brother"?! I know that the C3000A is a $300 modem and the C3000Z a $150 modem. This is for Gigabit Fiber Service.
Their justification was that they have found problems with the C3000A that created security issues and other problems and are no longer "dispensing" them and are replacing them with the BETTER C3000Z's. I have a bad feeling about this. I have spent sometime searching and found nothing discussed about this. Is it true, or are they feeding me a line of BS?!
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you . . .

SERIOUS Problems with new FTTH install.
It's been a number of years since I've had anything to do with CL. When a salesperson came knocking and offering their FTTH service, I decided to give them a try. After missing the first install, rescheduling it a month out and then missing the install date AGAIN, they finally managed to get it installed and boy, what a piece of garbage. Nothing work. Netflix times out as well as dozens of other sites I visit. I can watch the status bar of my browser stopping on all sorts of URLs it can't talk to. I thought it might be the CL box they gave me so I configured my Cisco 1941 for their service and it's exactly the same. Mind you, this isn't Netflix throttling, this is Netflix can't be reached. NNTP transfer rates are abysmal, which is why I got the service in the first place.
I'm thinking I'm just going to call up and tell them to come get their shizz because I've been around and when you call front-line customer service at an ISP and say "my netflix broke" they'll do three hours of B.S. but will never examine their own network. There is clearly something wrong here and it feels like even though I have a routable address assigned to my device, everything that happens is proxied though some sort content filter that isn't working correctly. Netflix.com doesn't even work? What kind of massive failure could cause that? And how would one convey to customer support that it isn't my gear doing it? As a matter of fact, my Cox service is still active so I grabbed the ethernet cable from my modem, unplugged the centurylink cable from my router, plugged the cox cable into it and voila! Netflix works again. If there is a more clear cut case of "it's not me, it's you" I haven't seen it.
Anybody else experiencing any problems with this new FTTH service in the Scottsdale area?
Honestly, based on previous experiences with CL customer service, I don't think I'm even going to call repair. I'm just going to tell them I don't need it anymore and thank you very much. That's how bad "tech" support has become.
Sigh...

Centurylink is chopping down Copper when installing FTTH
Heads up, looks like Centurylink's contractors are cutting the copper for your landline when doing internet only FTTH installs, I've had two instances in the past week where they've cut active circuits with DSL & Phone, luckily already had port requests in for both. This wasn't standard procedure in Seattle just 2 years ago, anyone else seen this happen?

Departing CL again...What to do with C3000Z?
I returned to CL after 1gb fiber went live in our neighborhood. I've had a number of challenging experiences with CL in that past, so I was keen to not give them any more of my money. That said, my US Internet fiber install was completed and activated about 2 weeks ago and I've been running on it since.
It seems to be solid and fast. While supposedly 1GB service, I'm noticing lower results on speed tests as compared to my CL fiber--I suspect that's because of limitations on my Netgear R7500v2 router. I used to use the Netgear behind the C3000Z, allowing the former to handle the local network and the latter to serve up the internet. Yeah, I know--not the best set-up but it worked fine.
That said, I'm wondering if I should use a similar configuration and stick the C3000Z back in front? I won't need to login anymore, so I can turn that off, but theoretically it has a faster brand band throughput on the WAN port compared to my Netgear. Is there better firmware I can put on it to replace the CL firmware? Or, should I just box it up and keep it handy in case I ever need to move back to CL? Or just sell it off?

Newbie Question about Modem/Router Replacement (PK5001Z-->C1100Z)
For a long time, CenturyLink reps have been telling me my old PK5001Z needs to be replaced. Wireless signal is getting progressively weaker, random reboots, randomly dropping PCs off the network, etc.
I've resisted it because I hate having to set up stuff all over again. I have an old desktop Windows XP PC, a newer desktop Windows 10 PC, and 2 Windows 10 laptops and, when the router is cooperating, they can all see each other. The only one that's connected via ethernet cable at the moment is the old Windows XP PC. The others are connected wirelessly. Of course, I have 2 mobile phones, 2 tablets, a media player, game console, and satellite box that all connect wirelessly as well.
I finally relented and let CenturyLink send me a new modem/router (C1100Z). It's been about 2 weeks and I haven't gotten around to setting it up because I'm waiting until I have some time on the holidays.
Here are my questions/concerns:
1. Is the fact that I've delayed swapping out the routers going to be a problem with CenturyLink? My old one is still getting the job done with the random reboots, etc.
2. All the instructions tell me to do is plug everything in, wait for a solid green DSL light, and launch a web browser on a PC that's connected via ethernet cable. It tells me I'll be directed to a "Welcome Page" and I'll apparently have to enter some data. This sounds like a new service setup. Nothing is changing in terms of my service, this is just a modem/router swap. Can I not just go directly to 192.168.x.x and enter the admin login and then set up the router? (I've taken screen shots of my current settings, so I should be able to do it.) I would like to change the SSID and password to the exact same thing my current router is using which I personalized years ago. Is going to the Welcome Page necessary?
3. I understand that I'll need to go to each PC and device and re-sign in. Will my current network still be valid? Please don't tell me I have to set that up from scratch. This is probably what makes me the most nervous. There was one instance several months ago in which a rep reset my router to factory defaults. She migrated over the settings, and all I had to do was re-sign in on all my devices and my previously established network drives were still accessible as before. Will this be essentially the same thing? If so, that was simple.
4. Several years ago, when I first got the old router, I connected directly to that old Windows XP PC with the ethernet cable (it wasn't old back then and it doesn't have a wireless NIC), and that was where I initially set-up the router and network. Now, I have a Windows 10 PC right next to the old XP PC, but the new PC is connected wirelessly. I know there's no point connecting wirelessly when it's so close to the router, and I fully intend to connect it to one of the router's 4 ports. My question is, is there any reason why I shouldn't connect the newer PC right off the bat with ethernet and use it to do the initial router setup? My concern is that since the older PC was what I initially used to set it up several years ago, is there a logical reason I should use it for the initial setup again? If I do use the newer PC for the initial set-up, will this interfere with my established network? Ultimately, after the router is set up, I'll be connecting the old and new PCs with ethernet cables.
I realize these are elementary and even stupid questions, so I apologize for burdening you with the wall of questions. It's just that I'm so ignorant to how it works, but somehow, years ago, I managed to set up a network that works well and since then have added a few PCs to the network and even a wireless printer and all perform flawlessly (at least until the old router/modem began to fail.)

Degraded Gigabit Speed - Portland, OR?
I've had Centurylink Gigabit for more than two years now and it has always been very reliable and robust; with upload and download speeds around 900+ Mbps. Recently, my speeds have dropped down to around 100 Mbps up and down. I am connected to the Belmont Central facility. Just wondering if the office is over provisioned, if anyone else is have this issue and whether it's been resolved and, if so, what the problem was and how it was resolved.
