In June of 2018, CenturyLink ran a fiber optic 1 gb/s (per house) internet line down my street, under the sidewalk. At the time they told us the line would be for the houses on our street and go up to 60mb. That was wrong. Additionally, they ran the line to the house on the street next to ours that connects at a 90degree angle. I stream and play competitive esports as well as host an online talk show, when we lost the WISP in our area we since then have been stuck with CenturyLink DSL. We get 20 mbs down, 1 mb up. They have since confirmed the line is not for us but is actually for the other street and is fiber. I am on the end of the street so the house to our left has 1 gb internet. This is quite frustrating. The regional manager for these projects said the only option would be to install a new line down the ENTIRE street. This would cost $21,190. There are not even enough houses on the street to make that doable. The current fiber line is literally 30 ft. from where the internet connection runs in on my house. Is there a way to trench my own connection to the one they already have and have someone splice it in etc. And secondarily, the line is only servicing around 10 houses max not all of which probably use the full one gb speed. Is there any reason why couldn't use the current line. The image below is a diagram. My address is XXXX Stratton Dr. NE

[CenturyTel] Centurytel Internet has started dropping regularly
We have had Centurytel DSL for over 10 years. As of Friday, the internet started dropping regularly (every few hours). DSL light stays lit but internet light goes out.
C1100z modem (our own) was in bridge mode to netgear WNDR3400v3 with Netgear providing authentication. To try and solve, reset C1100z to modem/router and removed Netgear. No improvement.
Phone line had gone from wall to UPS where split with one cord to modem and one cord (with filter) to phone. Now from wall to C1100z and using modem phone port to connect phone. No improvement.
DSL stats attached. This is after overnight. Was on when we went to bed, off as of morning. Will call Centurytel if I can get insight on what to tell them. Appreciate any help.
(Apologies if multiple screenshot uploads. didn't see in preview so repeated steps.)

Back up modem for pair bonded 20/2 VDSL
I had some issues with connectivity yesterday so had CL roll a tech to look at it. I was wondering if it might be my C2000t modem but it turned out to be a bad wire at the NID. DSL2 was off/slow/intermittent. BUT it did get me thinking that I should have a back up modem and thought I'd approach you all in case I really should be getting a different modem as back up or to use as primary while I put the C2000t on the shelf. BTW, the tech confirmed what I suspected, I'm screwed for ever getting faster speeds until someone decides to install a DSLAM closer (loop length 8800' and 7800' shown on modem page). Thanks for any wisdom to share.

Centurylink Fiber IPV6
Hello,
I have CL 100mb Fiber, How do I know if I am in an area that supports IPV6? Does anyone know how to set it up so I can use IPv6 instead of IPv4? I am using my own router with PPPOE. Anyone have a guide or anything, or can put me in the right direction? Also, I am not in a tagged vlan area.
Thanks!

ZyXEL C3000Z CZD005-4.16.011.0 firmware available
I noticed today (November 02, 2019) that my ZyXEL C3000Z had new firmware available: version CZD005-4.16.011.0. I was not able to find a changelog or any information about the update. This is the second firmware update (the first was available after my FTTP Gigabit service was installed 1 1/2 years ago in Seattle) for my ZyXEL C3000Z, so I was happy to install it. As before, the installation was very easy.
Even though the downloaded file is a .bin file, I opened it with less (I use Linux), and I noticed this:
internalversion=1.00(ABHZ.0)b18;
externalversion=CZD005-4.16.011.0;
builddate=10/18/2018;
buildtime=18:01:02;
MSCFE_VER_MAJ=1;
MSCFE_VER_MIN=9;
MSCFE_VER_ECO=0;
ImageChecksum=B59582A7;
RootfsChecksum=EF0F77F4;
KernelChecksum=5D6DA464;
which seems weird/erroneous because the build date seems to be more than one year ago. Did I really go that long without checking for a firmware update? That seems unlikely to me.
Is there a way for an end user to find a changelog or its equivalent for CenturyLink router/modem firmware updates?
At any rate, I am happy that the ZyXEL C3000Z has a firmware update after all this time.
Edit: corrected when my FTTP service was installed.

If I cancel phone, will CL leave the line still connected for 911?
I still have a bare-minimum landline with residential measured service only, with no other services. I only use about 3 minutes a month for a couple of local calls, and otherwise use a mobile phone for everything else. I've been keeping the landline for both the continued calling during power outages and because I can't stand cellphone voice mail and therefore keep an old-style answering machine active on my landline. But I am now truly sick of all the calls that come from politicians, surveys, solicitations, and so on, so sick that I just want to cancel the whole line and go dark. And with the election coming, these calls are only getting more and more frequent. Also, even the barest landline phone service is so bloody expensive, even with measured service. I've thought about substituting MagicJack and porting the line, but that won't stop all the unexpected calls.
When one cancels phone service entirely with CenturyLink, does CL leave the line connected to the CO and just disable by computer, or will they actually disconnect the line? I seem to recall reading years ago that they were still obligated to provide 911 service on a landline, even when disconnected. Is that true? Continued 911 service would be nice, if that would continue.

Who do I need to get ahold of to do this? I tried calling and didn't get anywhere. The coverage map at the moment shows it on the next street and surrounding. Sorry if this has already been asked, I couldn't find anything.

Look What Just Appeared by My Driveway! A DSLAM!
I live a few miles from the middle of nowhere, Missouri with no internet options except for satellite. Saw some CenturyLink techs doing something at the end of my driveway. When I came back from work, I saw a shiny new DSLAM! It's an Adtran Total Access 1148V VDSL2 OSP DSLAM -- 48 possible ports of chewy, possibly VDSL2, goodness!
I know there are many, many variables in play, but say that you were CenturyLink and you installed one of these. How long might it be until the DSL is activated?
Hope my line, which runs about half a mile back to our house and was buried a couple of decades ago, will work so I can dump Hughesnet.
Other than putting my info in the "Let me know when DSL is available" tool on CL's website, is there anything else I should do to ensure I know when it spins up? Keep a box of donuts in the car and make friends by passing them out if I see a CenturyLink tech?

Route hijacking ongoing?
Morning all, I noticed my internet this morning (about 2:20 am central) dipped out and was "out" for about five minutes - not the traditional out mind you (e.g.; hardware failure, dsl link issue, fiber cut, etc). However, it would appear it was caused by a possible route hijack - which isn't the first time that this has happened in the past couple of years.
223.151.250.213 popped up right after the Gardner KS router, and before the CenturyLink router up in Kansas City, MO.
Anyone else experiencing this issue? Slapped in a mtr below along with the IP whois for inquiring minds. Note that everything after hop 3 was non-responsive and was all terminating at the 223 IP octet. While this issue was ongoing, the cell tower to my south utilizes CenturyLink for its backhaul, and it was down as well as per my cell phone via Sprint and TMobile's networks, along with a Sprint LTE 'puck' - nothing could be resolved, nothing was being routed at all. Just nothingness.

[CenturyTel] Gigabit in south Denver area this week
We got a 'door hanger' about fiber gigabit here in Littleton/Centennial CO from CenturyLink a couple of weeks ago, which I promptly ignored as just more "pie in the sky" type of stuff (just like Centennial's gigabit "Fiber Initiative" which is STILL two or more years away for our neighborhood)..
But then my neighbor (who works for Xcel energy as a lineman), told me that he saw and asked a truckload of CL techs that were installing "pad mount boxes" less than a block away, when this was gonna be possible. And they told him it was gonna be 'lit up" by this coming week (!).
Well - you know I had to bite on THAT.. So I called the number from the CL door hanger just now, and this person confirmed it will be 'hot' by next Monday, and I verified our address and then asked what their progress was supposed to be and ... damn if it isn't gonna be HERE by Wed./Thurs. (or so she said..). So I just ordered it...
So, now I guess I need to 'gussy up' my "internals", cuz I REALLY want a super-secure 'gateway' with the hope of getting 'best' connecting speeds on my network (we have two small "home businesses" we run: one from my wife's office on the back of the garage, and I do my consulting thing from my separate office/lab in the basement, which is where all the existing 'network infrastructure' is distributing to our LAN). As a 'background', lemme say that I changed out all the CAT-5 for CAT-6 about two years ago, and replaced the old wifi with two new "wireless-ac" APs earlier this past spring, and I currently feed the existing Comcast 50/10 Internet to our LAN through a 24-port Engenius gigabit switch which distributes our Internet and LAN through every room in the house.
But.. what 'disturbs me' is (whenever I have had to contact Comcast for anything) just how much they can "see" inside my LAN, even though I have what I THOUGHT was a pretty secure router at the 'head-end' of our LAN. Well, if this is NOT the case then I feel I gotta address this immediately if this thing is so damned 'transparent', and especially now that the pressure is on IF I can actually get gig-speeds pretty soon.
So... I was considering a Ubiquiti "Unifi Secure Gateway" because ... well, I am a bit of a "fan-boy' of Ubiquiti hardware, and I like the the specs which seem to be pretty good for that cost ($130 +/- and two day delivery from Amazon Prime), but I came here 'cuz I wanted some input on this consideration. I sure ain't made of money, but I'm also not totally afraid to spend a 'reasonable amount' to achieve what I need. So... Any commenters out there with 'reasonable' suggestions?

CenturyLink Service Troubleshooter
Yesterday we experienced the longest outage since we joined CL two years ago, and it took me a while to realize this Service Troubleshooter existed but it confirmed we had a problem in our area.
When it confirmed that the Test Result was Known Outage Found it said in Next Steps to "simply provide the necessary info" and "we'll contact you". But then there is no button or link or text entry box or anything to actually do that!? Tried both Firefox and IE11 browsers but nothing, no way to enter a telno or SMS or email anywhere that I could see.
Can anyone confirm that this is broken, or might this particular glitch be on me?

Centurylink Modem upgrade needed
I'm trying to help a friend with centurylink service get her internet working better; her issues seem to be poor wifi signal and the modem crashes often (it is a big house, and has a basement). Due to distance, the best service she can get is the 3MB.
She currently has a zytel pk5001z, which seem antiquated.
Any recommendations for a modem/router I could buy for her, that would excel at wifi strength, but doesn't need to support latest and greatest DSL specs -- but needs to support 3mb :(
(She is in WNW Las Vegas, if it makes a difference)

Horrible Ping issues on games after exactly 7PM MST every night
Is anyone else seeing an issue with ping every night on CenturyLink Fiber? The download speed is fine, but when I'm trying to connect to specific game servers (so far both Overwatch Central and Diablo 3), the ping is almost pegged at 300ms which is basically unplayable. When I connect to NordVPN, it goes back to normal. This will usually resolve itself at around 10PM. This is super frustrating as this is pretty much the only time of the day I can play. I tried contacting support and they told me that I needed a Static IP address... I just laughed and hung up at that point.
Traceroute seems to show the signal going around the world for some reason. Is there a bad node somewhere that is malfunctioning during peak time?
Is there anything I can do?

C3000z will not let me turn 5ghz now
C3000z will not let me turn 5ghz now.
Yesterday my wireless died.
Could not connect to 2.4ghz or 5ghz. So I power reset & connected to 2.4g works. Later noticed that the 5g network was not connect able. Logged into the zyxel and found 5ghz disabled. Try to enable and apply..... Just goes back to disable. Also Mac auth is enabled now on the 5g band, I know I never enabled that & it will not let me disable that. Is this modem shot?

[Qwest] Help with rewiring bonded DSL
Hi. I have CenturyLink, 2 line 60 mB service. Worked fine for years, then we remodeled and I relocated the phone jack. I can't figure out which pairs I should be connecting to the modem. Right now the modem is only seeing 1 line. The NID box photo is shown. I basically need to know which pairs I need to connect to the RJ11 jack running into the modem. I see the blue and green pairs coming from the box on the bottom, then the POTS green/red line, and then the orange pair. I can get the line 1 dial tone but can't find the line 2 dial tone. Help.

CL fails to provide 10/1 in CAF area
My dad lives in a rural area served by Centurylink only. They recently installed several DSLAM's in his area due to CAF. They were supposed to install a DSLAM about 1/2 mile away but changed the location according to the local tech. and placed it 2 miles away. He signed up for 10/1 service but when the tech. came out, he stated he couldn't offer bonded service and ended up giving my dad 6/.6. The modem is a new 3000a so it's capable of bonded service. The single line is also terrible and he's only getting around 4 mb down. Doesn't CL have to provide 10/1 in areas such as my dads where they accepted CAF money?

Centurylink is chopping down Copper when installing FTTH
Heads up, looks like Centurylink's contractors are cutting the copper for your landline when doing internet only FTTH installs, I've had two instances in the past week where they've cut active circuits with DSL & Phone, luckily already had port requests in for both. This wasn't standard procedure in Seattle just 2 years ago, anyone else seen this happen?
