Why does CL offer less and less speeds over the years?

Hello again, Could someone from CenturyLink or maybe someone in the know please explain why the CenturyLink website keeps offering lower and lower tiers, instead of raising the tier plans like the rest of the ISP's do? In 2012 we were offered 40/5 service and so we signed up for that and actually got 50/7 during speed tests. But over the years both the speeds and tiers have gotten lower and lower and lower. We are now going on our 6th year of High Speed internet with CL, but the packages they offer keep getting lower and lower and I see no new upgrades in sight. Why is CenturyLink go backwards when all my friends keep getting faster and faster internet packages over the years? I now have friends with 350 Mbps services who actually see 370 Mbps speed tests, while my service keeps getting worse and worse. And we all started off at the same speeds... Is CenturyLink really this lame of a company? I expected 80/10 service by now. What gives? What irks me most is that if I go to CenturyLink.com and put in my address to find these fancy new upgrades we should be getting by now, I am instead offered a maximum Tier upgrade of 12 Mbps. How is 12 Mbps a upgrade over my current 40/5? This makes ZERO sense to me. Any explanation please?

Just Plain Bad CenturyLink Peering?

Has anyone on CenturyLink's 1 Gigabit (940 Mbps) fiber service ever downloaded (not speed test sites) faster than ~300 Mbps? The most mine has ever downloaded at is ~300 Mbps despite the services (Origin, Steam, etc) being able to support Gigabit connections. Has been really disappointing ever since I got CenturyLink's Gigabit fiber service over two years ago that the peering has been so bad it never even downloads at half of what it should. I'm curious about others' experiences on the 940 Mbps/940 Mbps CL service as well, so please feel free to share.

Centurylink MAJOR outages...

Called tech support because Internet suddenly went down and then could not get it back despite having steady green DSL light on modem. Internet stats showed DSL up but Internet status "connecting" for over an hour. Tech support said service in down in my area for equipment repair, but further investigation shows right now the outage map for Centurylink across the USA looks like a damn Christmas tree. See here: https://downdetector.com/status/centurylink/map/ Saw some comments indicating something is up with equipment that processes DNS servers? I tried to enter various DNS servers like Cloudflare and Google into my router settings but it made no difference. Can't connect despite having line stats that show DSL is up.

New Home Construction

Hello. When you build a new home in a CL area, do they run the drop from the pedestal to the home and bury it for free or with the included install cost? If not, do they charge based on footage from the home to the pedestal or how does this work? We're building a new home on a 6 acre property that currently has an old home with CL installed but that house is being torn down so we need a new drop ran from their pedestal to the new home. I'm wondering the cost and procedure to get this done. Thank you

Bonded VDSL Modem/Router Question

Hi all, You will not believe the day I've had trying to wrestle with all of this! So, it started out with me wanting to create a NAS system at home. I went on the cheap and just bought a 4TB hard drive to plug straight into my router. My router is leased from CenturyLink for $10 a month and I have the Actiontec C3000A model. Upon plugging in my hard drive, it doesn't appear on my network. After a little digging, I find that CenturyLink disables all the USB ports on their modem/router combos. Ok, lame. So I begin my search for another device. I come across so many options, but so many exclude this or won't work with that. I have no idea! So I contact CenturyLink to ask about my internet. I find that I have a Bonded VDSL connection. Not what I was hoping for. As everything I'm coming across isn't compatible with a bonded connection. So I go back to CenturyLink and inquire about purchasing a new C3000A modem/router from them and if the USB port would be disabled. The answer is still yes, it would be. Apparently, even if you own the whole thing outright, they still disable your USB port so their technicians can manually upgrade the firmware. Now, I'm happy with my service, my connection speeds are amazing, and I don't really have an issue with what I'm paying monthly. However, I'm now limited in my ability to continue upgrading my home to become the smarthome of the future! Currently I am paying for 120mbps. I don't want to lose any speeds, and according to CentruyLink, this particular modem/router, when on a bonded VDSL connection has shown speeds up to 200mbps, which is the best modem on their compatibility list. So, what can I do to not lose my speeds but regain my ability to create the tech-home I want to build? Is there a comparable modem/router that works with a bonded VDSL connection? I haven't seemed to see one. Can I put the C3000A in bridge mode and connect a standalone router to bypass my issue? If so, which would you suggest to maintain my speeds? Keep in mind, I mentioned SmartHome. So I've got everything from my lamp lights to my garage door connected to my internet, so I can't afford a break in speeds. Or! Do I throw my hand up and switch ISPs to a cable provider? There's a provider in my area offering 150mps at a cost of $5 less a month than what I'm paying for/getting with CenturyLink (internet and modem lease price combined), and it appears there's a lot more flexibility in the ability to provide my own modem/router. However, if I can manage to get a modem/router which works on a bonded VDSL connection, then I can remove my equipment cost with CenturyLink and ultimately pay $5 less than what the cable provider would like to charge.

plan and pricing changes?

Just took a look today at CL availability and noticed some plan/pricing changes. I used to have 12mb or 20mb (bonded) offering in my area for 45 price for life and that looks to no longer be an option. Now all that is offered is 15mb for 49 price for life. Anyone else notice changes? Are they simplifying their offerings?

[Qwest] Need new modem for pair bonded VDSL 120Mbps?

I just upgraded from 20 mbps to 120 mbps yesterday. I currently have a C1900A modem, and was advised by CL tech support that I need a new modem (after i was told last week that I did NOT need a new modem). I have rebooted modem, direct wired my computer into the modem (I have an Asus router behind the modem), disconnected router, and am still seeing speeds only about 80 Mbps (speedtest.net and CL help site speedtest). Oh, and in case it matters I rebuilt my computer 2 weeks ago to new motherboard and Ryzen 5 cpu, 16 gb ram. 1. Has anyone else had similar issues or upgraded to new modem to support a similar speed? CL suggested I get a C3000A as it was the only one to support up to 200 mbps. 2. Are there non-Century Link options that work well or is it really best to just go with their modem? Any guidance is very much appreciated! Thanks!

ActionTec C3000A vs ZyXel C3000Z . . .

Well my beloved C3000A died. I called Tech Support and since the C3000A was still under warranty they are sending a free replacement. I was told I'd be getting the C3000A's "Big Brother", the C3000Z. Really, is it the C3kA's "Big Brother"?! I know that the C3000A is a $300 modem and the C3000Z a $150 modem. This is for Gigabit Fiber Service. Their justification was that they have found problems with the C3000A that created security issues and other problems and are no longer "dispensing" them and are replacing them with the BETTER C3000Z's. I have a bad feeling about this. I have spent sometime searching and found nothing discussed about this. Is it true, or are they feeding me a line of BS?! Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thank you . . .

Price for Life promo increased by $4?

Not sure if anyone noticed it, but I saw an advertisement by CL that increased the price for life promo from $45 to $49 for 80MB. I did a quick price lookup and sure enough new service at my address would be $49. I haven't had much issue other than an 18 hr down stretch a few weeks ago where they credited my account for a day. I've had them for roughly a year and a half. I paid the install fee for the faster dual bonded service and bought the modem day one so it's still a flat $45 to save some myself some money in the long run. With no chance of fiber from CL probably anytime soon and not a big fan of Charter especially after their promo price goes away after a year, I'll probably be sticking with CL for awhile barring any major issues in the future. I just figured it was worth mentioning the $4 price jump I saw fwiw.

CenturyLink and Facebook

I wanted to put this word out to anyone if there has been recent reports of Facebook Stalling, slow loading, or no connection to Facebook as of late? I Ask is because with the recent elimination of #NetNeutrality Nationally although some state like Washington State still hold on to the rules of it, and I am concerned that Facebook is being targeted as a "Fast Lanes" Premium site that has constrained the loading on my ISP, and I got a feeling this may only be the start, this happened starting back on the 15th of this month.

[Embarq] Not complaining...but I noticed my download speed changed

I'm supposed to have 80/10 Fiber internet via Embarq/CenturyLink. I had my router's (D-Link DIR-885L) QOS set up using that bandwidth range. The other day I was trying to determine if the QOS was causing some issues I was seeing and turned it off and ran the speed test here on DSL Reports and my download speed had increased noticeably (just in case I had done something wrong I also ran speed tests on the NetFlix FAST speedtest site and CenturyLink's speedtest site). I hadn't compaligned to CenturyLink about any troubles in a long time (the last time was when a software update screwed up my ONT and nothing worked for days). The only thing that happened recently was I had to reset my ONT because my connection went down (though I still had my fiber telephone service). Has anyone else seen this happen and how long before CenturyLink realizes it and lowers my speed?

CL 1Gb WAN Speed Problem

$

Hi All: I am having a download speed issue on my CL 1 Gb WAN connection. I have a Netgear R7800 route directly connected to the ONT and my PC. I used to get about 900 download and 940 upload. I use the client Speedtest to QTS Data Center which always tested at about 900. However, for the past month or so, the max download I can get is between 70-100 Mbps, while uploads test at about 900 Mbps. Latency is between 2-3 MS. VLAN Tagging is set to 201, priority 0. Speeds are the same in Safe Mode. I am running Voxel’s latest firmware and QOS and Traffic Meter are turned off. According to the CL Internet Support website, my data line has no problems. Am on Win7 Pro. The LAN side tests perfectly for my 1 Gb Ethernet speed. When the ONT was installed the installer used Cat 5e cable. Would that make any difference? I also have tried changing the cable from my router to PC with no change. Before talking to CL Support, anybody have any suggestions as to how to diagnose/resolve the problem? Thanks so much, P.

ONT Renewing my IP/Loss of Internet

I have CL Fiber. Have had it for about a year and lately I am running into this issue that is quite annoying. I have tried 2 routers just to make sure its nothing on my end. One router was a Netgear Xr500 and the other a Ubiquiti Amplifihd. Basically what happens is, I will be browsing the web/playing a game and then I cant access anything. The webpage will come up with the Internet not connected page. I look at my router and it says my WAN connection is down/No Ip address. I go into the logs and it always says DHCP Renew. This sometimes happens several times a day. When we first moved into the house I remember the Tech replacing the ONT with a newer one. Im almost at the point where I am going to cancel my service, because I call in and get the "must be your equipment" since Im not using theirs. I have an option to go to Suddenlink but I really like my Fiber service, low latency nice upload etc. Anyone have a similar problem? How did you get it fixed. I am wondering if its a possibility that this ONT has gone bad. The power company that is here has spikes that cause the power to go out for 10-15 secs then back on. The ONT does have a battery backup in the garage but the Battery inside is no good so its dcd. The tech said he didnt have any for my model and removed it. So basically the ont is just getting power and thats it. What do I need to do? Anyway I can pull any logs from the ONT?

Horrible Ping issues on games after exactly 7PM MST every night

Is anyone else seeing an issue with ping every night on CenturyLink Fiber? The download speed is fine, but when I'm trying to connect to specific game servers (so far both Overwatch Central and Diablo 3), the ping is almost pegged at 300ms which is basically unplayable. When I connect to NordVPN, it goes back to normal. This will usually resolve itself at around 10PM. This is super frustrating as this is pretty much the only time of the day I can play. I tried contacting support and they told me that I needed a Static IP address... I just laughed and hung up at that point. Traceroute seems to show the signal going around the world for some reason. Is there a bad node somewhere that is malfunctioning during peak time? Is there anything I can do?

Bad Network Node?

There is a consistent issue I am seeing on my line that is due to a particular ISP node. The one hop at 63-235-42-186.dia.static.qwest.net has a lot of packet loss. It is making online gaming unplayable currently. Is anyone else experiencing this? It has been going on for a few days now. I am on CenturyLink Gigabit Fiber in Seattle for reference.
