hello all,
woke up thursday AM to a no internet notice on win7. pk5001z was showing all green. called TS and after taking a paperclip to the box, and the tech injecting my info back into it, was still at a 100% packet loss. after another 10 minutes they came back and said it had to do with my static ip? also said they were going to overnight the new modem that's being rolled out. expected service back by noon friday.
no overnight package/ no modem, and still no service. the automated voice now tells me 430pm today.
anyone else with this?

CenturyLink modem
What is the best CenturyLink modem? With all the latest technology
I will be getting 20 Mbps pair bonded on a adsl2+ line installed on Tuesday and I have my old modem from 3 years ago but would like to get a newer updated modem that supports all the latest technology from CenturyLink

Centurylink Modem upgrade needed
I'm trying to help a friend with centurylink service get her internet working better; her issues seem to be poor wifi signal and the modem crashes often (it is a big house, and has a basement). Due to distance, the best service she can get is the 3MB.
She currently has a zytel pk5001z, which seem antiquated.
Any recommendations for a modem/router I could buy for her, that would excel at wifi strength, but doesn't need to support latest and greatest DSL specs -- but needs to support 3mb :(
(She is in WNW Las Vegas, if it makes a difference)

Troubleshooting bonded DSL
I hope there are some knowledgeable people around, I need some help deciphering the issue with my DSL service. We have 20Mbps bonded, run a C3000Z modem, and for the last week there has been almost no internet. This was our 6th service call in the last 12 months. Here is what the modem shows: DSL1 - 10Mbps; DSL2 - 1.56Mbps; Internet: Not Connected.
From the phone interface box, I can disconnect the DSL2 wires (the orange pair). The DSL2 light on the modem turns red, and the Internet signal connects, and we get around 5-6Mbps, via DSL1 only, I presume. This happens when I hook the modem directly to the interface box, and with the existing wire in the house.
This means there is a problem with the DSL service coming in, right? The issue isn't inside the house wiring?
Thanks

C1000A
I am moving and atechnician told me that the modem I currently have, the C1000a, will not work at the new house. I chatted with CenturyLink directly and they of course just referred me to the list of approved devices, which lists the C1000a - I pressed them for an answer and they said it should work, but if it doesn't I will need to upgrade (the tech says I will need a C3000a). Is the info legit? Is there something with the hardware at the new location that would prevent the C1000a from working?

Look What Just Appeared by My Driveway! A DSLAM!
I live a few miles from the middle of nowhere, Missouri with no internet options except for satellite. Saw some CenturyLink techs doing something at the end of my driveway. When I came back from work, I saw a shiny new DSLAM! It's an Adtran Total Access 1148V VDSL2 OSP DSLAM -- 48 possible ports of chewy, possibly VDSL2, goodness!
I know there are many, many variables in play, but say that you were CenturyLink and you installed one of these. How long might it be until the DSL is activated?
Hope my line, which runs about half a mile back to our house and was buried a couple of decades ago, will work so I can dump Hughesnet.
Other than putting my info in the "Let me know when DSL is available" tool on CL's website, is there anything else I should do to ensure I know when it spins up? Keep a box of donuts in the car and make friends by passing them out if I see a CenturyLink tech?

[Embarq] Not complaining...but I noticed my download speed changed
I'm supposed to have 80/10 Fiber internet via Embarq/CenturyLink. I had my router's (D-Link DIR-885L) QOS set up using that bandwidth range. The other day I was trying to determine if the QOS was causing some issues I was seeing and turned it off and ran the speed test here on DSL Reports and my download speed had increased noticeably (just in case I had done something wrong I also ran speed tests on the NetFlix FAST speedtest site and CenturyLink's speedtest site). I hadn't compaligned to CenturyLink about any troubles in a long time (the last time was when a software update screwed up my ONT and nothing worked for days). The only thing that happened recently was I had to reset my ONT because my connection went down (though I still had my fiber telephone service).
Has anyone else seen this happen and how long before CenturyLink realizes it and lowers my speed?

Gigabit down in Central FL?
Was working perfectly. Suddenly went down around 1am and has been down since. No WAN light on the ONT. Red "internet" light on the modem/router.
I got Gigabit expecting better reliability than cable. So far it's been down for at least a few minutes nearly every night around this time.

Just want additional speeds, CL, you're the only hope it seems
So I can get Charter, up to their gig (940/20, or something). Nothing else available, except original CL GPON, up to 100/100. I really would like to see better speeds, even 200/200, or 300/300, because this current ability of using 200/8 is just horrible (through charter). I don't understand, with fiber already running everywhere, why they won't allow anything more on their network, in my area :(
↧
Is it possible to request faster internet speeds in my location?
Am currently offered a max of 10mbps in my area and want more. Is there any way to make a request to CenturyLink to do so? Would it help to get my neighbors involved too?

[Qwest] CL Aerial Fiber? 1000 feet from Aerial Drop. Possibilities?
Looking for a CL Tech / Engineer's help here.
My address, states "Advanced Fiber Technology" and yet I have Bonded VDLS2 10/1M. No news here on update/upgrades. So I'm trying to take thing as far as I can so CL might help :)
Overview
Along our road CL has aerial fiber feeding an additional Cabinet up the road by a few miles. I'm roughly 9000' North of the Main Cabinet/DSLAM that has been fiber fed for years. First Picture Below shows current DSLAM/Cabinets etc.
I was first told, I'd never gain access to aerial line. But since then, CL has done aerial drops at each other road intersection within the past 6-12 months. One intersection is roughly 1000' to the south (Second Image ). There's additional equipment here as shown in the photo as well.
In our front yard we have an aerial pole that runs over to the power poles. These power poles are also where the CL aerial fiber is running to the additional cabinet about 3 miles up the road.
I'm in pretty good shape as I have Aerial Poles ready, so no boring is needed which seems to be a barrier and huge cost. What's possible with this setup? Would CL let me connect at the intersection 1000' down the road?
Also, I have had a few correspondences with the Power Company regarding pole attachment if I need to run a fiber line all the way back to Main DSLAM and connect in to CL's network.
Any addition work I should complete to give me the best shot at CL assisting me? I'm not looking to spend 200K by any means, but I don't mind shelling out a money upfront if speed can happen.

VDSL Speed Dropping Drastically After 7pm Recently SW MO
I have had a 40 Mb\s connection with Centurylink for a couple of years now and have always gotten my full speed. This past week, the connection at night, around 7pm, has been dropping down to around 5 Mb\s consistently. I live in a very rural area so I doubt the line is getting hit very hard. Each morning I have my full speed again until around 7pm. Is anyone else having these issues lately? I'm currently screenshotting my tests with a time stamp in case I have to get ahold of Centurylink.

Gig fiber pricing out the door
I was wondering if anybody who has recently had gig fiber installed can answer some questions.
The biggest one is pricing. $65 a month is very tempting, but are there any fees that they tack on to that? I know telcos are notorious for slapping fees at the end making it less of a bargain than advertised.
Second, do they offer a modem without Wifi? I would prefer to use my own router that I have setup in the house and don't want to have to use bridge or DMZ mode to bypass it.
Third, is it equal to or more reliable than Cox? I've had my horror stories with CL's former companies but that was with old copper lines. Will the fiber be any better. Being with Cox for over 14 years in multiple locations in the Valley has made me feel comfortable but I'm tired of the constant rate hikes and the fact that the drowned Google in litigation that they bailed on Phoenix and Tempe.

Just installed CL fiber 1g in Denver area dwnld speed typ. 250mbs
Just got CL 1g fiber. Best download speed so far is about 250mbs. Is this normal? CenturyLink supplied zyxel c3000z supplied modem/WiFi box. This morning tested 79mbs down. Rebooted and it tested 260mbs. Speed test.com. Is this normal?

[CenturyTel] Billing - 14 Day Grace Period
I live in Minnesota and I prefer to pay my bill my mail. But unfortunately, Centurylink only gives me a 14 day grace period. All other bills I receive have a 30 day grace period. Are there any rules or written policies concerning this? Don't some states require a 30 day grace period?

Low SNR, High CRC, unstable connection
Hello!
I have a 6Mbps DSL connection with centurylink. I've had it for about three years, and over the last year it often becomes unstable, and even unusable. I have had atleast 10 technicians come out, and spent many hours on the phone trying to get the problem resolved, none of which has led to a fix. I have recently had my drop line replaced, which had no effect on the connection. I have replaced the C1100z router/modem three times, and it has had no effect. I do live out in the woods, and I've been told by some of the techs that the CO is about 2 miles out. A couple of the techs that were independent contractors straight up told me to deal with it, because 1) centurylink doesn't care to replace the old copper line and 2) i'm too far away from the CO for a stable connection. Other techs have told me that is not the case, and the connection was more stable when i first moved in a few years ago, so I am still hoping for a fix.
The connection will sometimes work for several hours at a time, and VERY rarely, a whole day. Most of the time though, it will work for 30 minutes or less before I see the SNR drop, and the CRC errors begin to accumulate at a rate between 50-500 every 10 seconds. Sometimes this leads to a line retrain, and it will work when the modem has cycled. Other times it will continue to error until i power cycle the modem, where the whole process repeats. Other times it will not resolve until I factory reset the modem, and other times still, even that won't resolve it and there is nothing I can do.
My main questions are thus: How can the line work so well at some times, and so poorly at others? If the line was damaged, wouldn't it be unable to support a solid connection at any time? Could the connectivity issues be related to other subscribers in my area using their service at the same time? Also, with stats like this, is it DEFINITELY a line issue, or could this be related to my router, and might I benefit from trying a different make such as Netgear?
I am currently in contact with a branch of Centurylink called "Crucialcare" that deals with problem connections like this, and I am waiting to hear back from the agent I'm working with, as he is reaching out to the local supervisor.
Any information or suggestions are welcome and appreciated. I have had to learn a great deal of patience from troubleshooting and dealing with this connection, but I would still like to do everything in my power to resolve the situation. I'll attach some screenshots of what the DSL stats commonly look like when the connection drops, but bear in mind that the SNR can vary anywhere from -2 to 12, and that the CRC errors accumulate at a varying rate as well, sometimes more, or less than what I've posted. Please let me know if there is any other information, or other screenshots from the modem GUI that would be helpful to post.
Note: The first image is typical of a connection failure. The second and third attachments are from this morning, when it is strangely acting fine with NO ERRORS (very rare)
Thanks for taking the time to read!

What's a good price to pay an ISP to expand their network?
Been fighting CL for about 6 years with this horrible 1.5mb connection. For the last couple years I've been hammering them hard with support contacts trying to get them to fix the bandwidth issues for my area. They currently have the area marked as bandwidth exhausted and I'm about 4 miles from the main CL building for the area. Just 1/2 mile away from their building is max 10mb service, and that's available up to 1 mile from my house. My grandpa is about a 1/2 mile away, and I see some effect on his connection with the bandwidth issues too, speed tests bunce from 3-6mb upto 17mb which is what they just upgraded him to.
Anyway, I've always hated DSL, grew up with Cable and it worked really well. I've contacted every ISP possible for my area, the only option I can find is a wireless company if I pay to put up a tower (~$4000 or so), or pay the cable company I found to expand their network to my area. Their old quote was $3600 + install ($120), but there's a 2nd person interested next to me so that should reduce the costs. Sadly their fiber connection terminates a mile away and the expansion will be cable based. They say they can provide up to 30mb connection and once they upgrade their hardware they can provide up to 110mb. Figured hard wired is more reliable than wireless, best the wireless can do is 15mb and it's running around 15 miles for their fiber hook up. Anyway, the cable company is most likely hanging wire, since their existing lines from their main building are all hung to almost my road.
Just to be clear, I'm out in the country, about 20 miles from the nearest city (by road). My current DSL is phone line based, probably 50+ year old lines and they already did an upgrade in my area not too long ago that ended 1 mile short of my house, but from my understanding, fiber from their main building doesn't go too far, 1/2 mile or so (last terminal/box I can find that mentions burred fiber is at the fire department like 1/4 mile from the building).
To expand on my issues, started off as bandwidth related (lower than expected most of the time, got about 50-60% of the speed I'm paying for), for the last about year it has gotten so bad it seems to be dropping packets, but mainly related to DNS. Websites fail to resolve very often and keeps getting worse, but pinging sites via ip doesn't fail nearly as often. I've tired cloudflare's dns and google's with no change. I've hooked up directly at the pole's test port, same results with a different computer. Neighbors in my area confirm they have the same issues. CL Techs pretty much just laugh at the idea of the area being fixed. They've replaced the modem 4 times before I stated to tell them that I've replaced it more than enough times, it's not the modem.
Since outages give me a price break, I've been monitoring my connection via a quick program I made, here's the latest outages. Outage is defined as 3 ping fails in a row against 3 different servers with 5 sec timeout. Not sure what the norm is for outages, but it doesn't seem extremely bad. Also the ping rate is once per min, so the outage for 1 min might just be a modem reboot, ip refresh etc.
8/26/2019 1:12:15 AM Outage Start
8/26/2019 1:13:15 AM Outage End
8/27/2019 8:35:26 PM Outage Start
8/27/2019 8:36:26 PM Outage End
8/28/2019 7:52:16 PM Outage Start
8/28/2019 7:54:21 PM Outage End
9/10/2019 1:08:03 AM Outage Start
9/10/2019 3:48:39 AM Outage End
Quick little about me, I was a pc tech, database admin (mainly ended up programming), programmer (mainly as a hobby for 20 years), I've worked with networks enough to have a pretty good idea on how they function.
My setup:
Pole to house - cat5e cable new from CL
Modem: C1100Z (tech said it's the "good one")
I use my own netgear switch, but direct connect to the modem doesn't effect anything.
Single user, but I'm a power user... well really 1.5mb can't even support 1 user with today's internet standards.
All devices are had wired and connect at gb
Several techs have validated signal strength is great, and one did a test from the phone line the modem uses to the DSLAM and it tested at 21mb/s (~1300ft loop). All techs says it's the back bone, and I'd agree (this was before the bandwidth exhaust status).
If any other info is needed, let me know. I just want stable internet, atleast 10mb connection so I can watch streams and do my work online (ebay and such). I've thought about moving, but I like the location too much, country, good neighbors, state land near by, and I own enough land to ride atvs on and such, the internet service is the only negative about my area.
