I recently purchased a modem. If I return the current modem that is leased, do I need to do anything else besides watch my bill to make sure the lease charge is dropped?

Good morning! My address doesn't show up on the website to order CenturyLink's gigabit service. I did speak with both phone and Twitter support who confirmed that my address is "in the system" and qualifies for gigabit service in my area. Can any CenturyLink techs help please? Thank you in advance!

WiFi slower than expected

Just switched from Comcast to CenturyLink VDSL2 bonded. I have an Asus RT-AC68U router (stock firmware) that was connected to the cable modem. Comcast service was 55 down/5 up. Speed tests over wifi were showing 60-65 down and 6-7 up. Now I have the Asus taking care of PPPOE and connected to the Actiontec C1900A which is in bridge mode untagged (wifi is off). Speeds are supposed to be 80/10. Over ethernet I get 78-80 down and 9-10 up so I know I'm getting advertised speeds. However, when I connect via wifi and run a speed test I get anywhere from 25-60 down and 9-10 up. I would normally chalk this up to interference but Comcast was consistently showing advertised speeds over wifi. Plus the upload speeds over ethernet and wifi stay around 9-10 so I'd expect it to be lower if it was interference related. It's just the download speeds that are so far off. The only thing that has changed is the router handling PPPOE. Is this expected behavior or is there some way to get better speeds over wifi?

Cancelling PrismTV --> Upgrading Internet... What to expect?

Well, CL rate increases to PrismTV finally broke me. Pushed me to cut the cord and convert to Vue. I decided to try sticking with CL for internet since they have 40Mb for $45 PFL. Should be plenty for me. Anyhow, I'm wondering what I should expect. Tech has to upgrade the line -- I'm guessing to add a pair and enable bonding since I need to upgrade modems (C2000T to C3000Z). I've attached a screenshot of my current DSL connection via the C2000T. Is there anything there that suggests I won't be able to get 40Mb?

Talktous no longer responding

Hello again, ***Please read first. I have no intentions on upsetting anyone and I really don't enjoy writing this as I have other things to do. This is not meant to allow others to bash centurylink. your problem with centurylink are yours. I have posted this to have public record of progress with issues that can no longer be resolved through the chains given to me as a customer. I would rather do this before involving any service commission that would not be beneficial to anyone.*** The issues we have had over the years have usually been resolved after an email to talktous@centurylink.com (or mostly IHD Escalations people, who now say I have the wrong department). After spending hours on the phone with tech support to check if my modem is plugged in to the wall or resetting all factory defaults and trying this or that setting, I started emailing issues with speed tests logged. That was what now seems to be the good old days. Since back in late 2014 our connection is at its best 2mbps down(I got excited when we reached 5 down with latency of 113 once), with latency being 200+. Upload speeds seem to be close to the norm at .40-.70. I sent an email to Talktous@centurylink.com on the 13th of July and have had no response. The last few interactions let me know how much of a miracle it is to have 10Mbps here. I've also been told of the known bottleneck in Basile, La. My normal download speed at 5:30AM is .9*Mbps. Trying to check into work after hours is impossible. A lot of the time I can't load centurylink.com without finding something to do while waiting. Just in case anyone is wondering, yes, I have unplugged everything but my pc to test speeds. I was also born the day before yesterday and not quite yesterday. I now have a fresh OS install on this pc. I also check with my work laptop directly connected while trying not to drive 40 Min. away to the office when the issue could be addressed without leaving my family at 2AM. This connection used to be fixed promptly when we could work together on it. I wish I could say the same is still true. So, have you guys just given up? Is my only option to cancel service because this feat of 10Mbps is unobtainable? Why cant someone just tell me this instead of taking my $80 per month? Is it possible to provide you guys with direct burial cat6 to replace a bad line? A trencher isn't that hard to obtain, so could I provide one and you guys rerun a line? I could also provide access to the easement and get dottie out, get a schedule and take off of work to allow for the pull. Are there some power issues somewhere that we could address with engineered solar backup banks? I'm willing to put up some personal capital in this to help provide what I've been paying for. I would really appreciate some sort of thought. When this connection works correctly it allows me to spend more time at home. Not much more, but enough to find it important. EDIT*** I updated my profile to reflect that I no longer live in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Currently live in Reeves, Louisiana. Just would like to be as up front as possible.

Has anyone heard anything with regards to Dual Stack on Centurylink? The website at a point said they were testing/trialing it and updates would be posted but it has since been removed. I know they have 6RD but Native IPv6 would be nice..

Question on New CL Fiber/DSLAM Upgrades

$

I'm in rural Clay Co MO west of Kearney, MO. A month or so ago CL ran fiber down our highway and I've been watching the install proceed. The pictures attached show a DSLAM that was put in this week (on the back of the rack). Good news for me is it’s only about 1000 ft. from my house. They are installing these all over in this area looks like this is part of CAF. I currently have 5mbs with CL but rarely see that. I’m wondering about the size of the rack it’s mounted on. Does this look like they might be allowing for expansion to add more DSLAM’s or something else? Other pictures I’ve seen show single boxes like this just mounted on a post. I also included a close up of the DSLAM. Thanks, Rick

Will CenturyLink upgrade an old NID?

I'm planning to do a new home run line at my parent's house for DSL. They should be getting 4 Mbps but never get above 2.7. They don't have a home phone anymore so I'm hopeful that I can increase their speed a little by disconnecting all the other phone lines and running a CAT 5 straight to the modem. However, I was wondering if I could get CenturyLink to replace the network interface device before I do this. The current one is pictured above and it's actually in the basement instead of outside. The home was built in 1967 and I'm guessing it's the original. I don't live there so I haven't opened it up and have no idea what the inside looks like. I know that I can contact support and ask, but I would appreciate any suggestions on what specifically to ask for and wanted to know if anyone else had been successful getting their old box replaced.

Is CenturyLink adjusting advertised fiber speed tiers?

$

For the past several years, the advertised fiber speeds in Seattle have been 40/5, 100/50, and 1000/1000. In fact, in the past two weeks I called after our 24 month contract price of $35 for 40/5 had expired and had our account put on 40/5 for $40. I've visited the appropriate pricing website, which used to have mentions of giftcard rebates of $100 or $150 on it. https://www.centurylink.com/fiber/plans-and-pricing/seattle-washington/ In the past week, centurylink revised away the giftcard promo but now appears to be offering different speed tiers, perhaps? Selling 40-80, 100-140, and 1 gig speeds seems like a different way to do things, particularly at the same price. Does anyone know what's up with these new plans?

CenturyLink running fiber in Mount Vernon, Ohio

I noticed today to my pleasant surprise a truck overlashing fiber optic cable on CenturyLink's copper plant down my road today. They are Ohio Line Construction, LLC based out of Loudonville, Ohio. They said they were contracted by CL to run fiber optic to improve the internet. They didn't tell me what type of deployment or plans CL had for the fiber such as FTTP, new remote DSLAMs, Cell tower backhaul, etc. The guy said he anticipated FTTP but it's up to CL and CL didn't give them the details. They told me call CL for details and that CL would be the ones in charge of splicing and running the line to my house. I was tempted to ask them how much to go ahead and run it to my house, but figured they'd have to bury it to do that as if they went aerial, the pole in my yard is owned by AEP. I live a few miles south of Mount Vernon.

C1900a modem help

Ok I have Centrylink DSL. IT IS 10mbs down and under 1 up. It used to be a Embarq area if that matters. Yeah it’s slow but it’s my only option. I was using netgear modem and it went belly up. Bought a DLink modem to replace it being the only one local I could find. I had a issue and they blamed my modem so I got a C1900A. I set it up and it seemed to work ok for a few days then the ping got extremely bad. I am just using the modem for a modem and using my airport for wireless. Is there a setting or something I missed that could cause this? Centurylink says it’s the modem even though it was brand new and I don’t think it is. Well maybe a setting for something. I reset everything yesterday and it worked good till today then the ping went to 300-400. Is this not a good modem for me? If there something else I can try? Thanks.

140Mbps modem

I currently have 80/10 from Centurylink and use a C2100T modem/router. I just checked and saw I can get 140Mbps for $55. It says I'd need a tech install and Premium wireless modem. What modem is required and why is a tech install needed? I already have 2 pairs coming in for the 80/10. Do they run fiber to the home for 140? If so, why wouldn't they offer gigabit?

Help with Centurylink Fiber ONT, I want to use my Amplifi HD.

Hello everyone. Just got Centurylink 100mb Fiber installed today. I researched this, so please bear with me. The tech brought me a c3000z router. Everything is up and running. I desperately want to use my ubiquiti Amplifi HD mesh router. I got the PPPOE details from the tech. I changed my Amplifi to PPPOE Put my username and password in, and set vlan id to 201. Press save. I went outside and reset the ONT, waited 5 mins plugged the ubiquiti into the cat 5 jack and every single time its telling me its not getting an IP address and to check my settings. Ive reset the ont again, re did the settings (username and PW) and nothing. Username and PW is correct. However when I plug the c3000z in, it works every time. This is really frustrating as I want to use my ubiquiti amplifi. Could someone please help me? I am frustrated that I cant figure it out. What am I doing wrong.

A few months ago CL installed fiber out here in the Desert and I am now on 1 Gig service, which I am pleased with. Last week some subcontractors were installing these which are pictured. They are subs to CL. Any idea what these are? Thanks so much and have a great weekend! TS

[CenturyTel] Returning Modem After Cancelling Service

$

I am going to call CenturyLink Monday to cancel my service, and I realize I will have to return my modem. I still have the box the modem came in, but I do not have a pre-paid return label for it. Could I ask CenturyLink to send me a return label? If they won't send a return label, could I send the modem via the post office (the nearest UPS location is 20 miles away)? TIA

C1900A Rebooting itself lately

Hey guys, I bought the Centurylink 80/10 service about a year ago and bought my C1900A outright. Ive had no issues whatsoever but yesterday it would reboot itself a good 3 times during the evening when we usually use the service the most. Well it just happened again tonight, and i'm not sure if its a modem problem or what? It feels pretty warm to the touch but its not super hot and I dont have it in an enclosed space and its on a hard surface so I dont believe its overheating. Its been in the 100's the past couple days but I got a couple A/C units keeping the house at a max of 76F. Does anybody have any ideas?? I've even tried unplugging it for a good 5 mins and re-plugging it in to no avail.

[CenturyTel] What is possible with this new hardware?

Century Link installed what looks like a Calix DSLAM down the road a few months ago. I am wondering what could be possible for my house which is 1160ft away as the crow flies and 2560ft away if you trace a line along the road to my house. We are sitting at 4Mbps down and .3 up. I've called CentLink and am always told there is nothing they could do and was about to give up hope when I found these forums. It looks like increasing my speed with centlink is the only option left since I was recently told my Charter that "no amount of money" could be paid to have them connect us even though their service ends within sight of my house. I moved into this house so I could help my mom take care of my sick dad, I know everyone has their problem but if I was able to work from home it would make everything so much easier. I currently am unable to that with our speeds. I attached a picture of what I think is the DSLAM and my DSL lines stats. I am begging for help here. Thanks everyone [att=1] [att=2]
