[Prism TV] GPON CenturyLink Prism TV + Asus RT-AC86U = No

VLAN 201 works for the internet (WAN), but "efficient multicast forwarding (IGMP snooping)" for the LAN to allow the Prism TV not to freeze after 10 seconds does not work on an Asus RT-AC86U. The older RT-AC66U works fine. IPTV page - Set the Internet VID to 201, I could not Enable "Enable multicast routing (IGMP Proxy)", "Disable (Due to hardware limitation, IGMP proxy cannot co-exist with IPTV function.)", apply to reboot. IPTV page - Set "Enable multicast routing (IGMP Proxy)" to enable. Prism TV channels freeze after 10 seconds. "Multicast routing and port forwarding of VLANs are not going to happen at the same time." [CenturyTel] Stats review for speed upgrade

I am on pair bonded 20/2 vdsl+ right now and find the uplink speed a little confining for my needs. I've attached the stats for each line if anyone would be so kind as to take a peek to review them and advise on if/how to get CL to bump me up a bit. I can live with the 20 down but getting on some other profile(?) of 5 up would be a real groove! Thanks for taking a look.

How to assign 5 CenturyLink static IPs to 5 routers / Bridge Mode

I just got a Zyxel Modem from Century Link and 5 usable Static IPs in a block of 8. I configured the modem for "transparent bridging" and configured the PPOE credentials on a DD-WRT router and now it is using the "Reserved Gateway" IP address. CenturyLink doesn't count this as one of the "5 usable" but it works. But I don't know how to get a static IP address bound to the WAN configuration on other devices. I configured a second router with the PPOE credentials but it does not get an IP Address from the modem. How do I specify the remaining WAN IP's when I connect more firewalls to the modem. PPOE configuration screens on most devices don't have a place to specify IP information (including on a Windows computer). I read in another forum that a user found his ISP automatically assigned his additional static IP addresses to additional routers attached to the modem. Unrelated . . my Comcast modem will do NAT/DHCP and Bridging for Static at the same time . . but they are twice the price for half the speed. Hoping to replace with this new CenturyLink setup.

C1100Z & MAC Authentication

Hello: I've had the C1100Z modem/router for a couple of years with no issues. SSID1 (renamed to my preference) is setup for my family's personal devices. I use MAC authentication as an additional layer of security. I have relatives visiting me and setup SSID2 as a guest network, but have found the MAC authentication doesn't work with SSID2, SSID3 or SSID4. Yes, I am sure I have the MAC addresses in the allowed list (and not the denied list). Yes, I have the device addresses typed in correctly. I've removed devices from my main network and tried to connect to the guest network without success. As soon as I disable MAC filtering, they connect in seconds. My firmware is up-to-date. Is this a quirk of the C1100Z or am I missing something obvious? It's bugging the heck out of me. Thanks!

GPON MDU Congestion Questions

Hello, I have been working with CenturyLink for the last few weeks on getting to the bottom of my speed issues where at certain times of day I willl see the download speeds drop to 40Mbps (I am a 1Gb customer). I had a tech come out to my apartment and confirm that my issues are congestion-related so as a techy I am trying to better understand where exactly the bottleneck exists. From what I have seen of the utility room in my building we have several MDU ONTs where they can have up to 4 units per (the Cat5e is then patched to the appropriate unit from there). Is the 2.5Gb/1.25Gb speeds associated with a GPON configuration split at the ONT layer or is that further upstream on a per OLT basis? Escalations is still working on connecting me with a local engineering resource to dig into this deeper however I’m trying to see if I am more likely fighting a noisy neighbor for bandwidth or if the issue lies upstream from the ONT. I am happy to provide my building address for any CL folks on here that could dig into the configuration further. Thanks, Dan

Hi All, is anyone seeing any outages in NC? We have a dedicated Business fiber that's been up and down all day. They claim they haven't found the issue, but the packet loss makes the connection unusable when it's "up" .

[CenturyTel] Centurylinks bill department is run by 1st graders

I switched over from about 20mbs to gigabit service and now 5 months later and 9 phone calls later we are still getting billed for 20mbs service and the Gbit service. This months bill says we owe them $600.00 for additional charges. I have contacted the BBB as well as the commerce commission since this is pure BS. The first two calls told them to cancel the 20mbs service and we are still getting charged then they told us we had to have a tech come out to fix it so we weren't being billed for two lines. So the tech came out and his first question was "why did the send me out when they can do this all from desk?" I am at a lose of what to do. Next letter will go to a local TV station and MN attorney general office.

C3000Z Config question

I don't know if I just missing it (Probably), or if I've got a screw loose, and looking at this wrong. In the GUI, I see one thing, and when telneting i see something different. I looks like I only have one pair, as I see no Bearer 1. Is this a problem with the modem, or am i not giving it the right command? SpeedTest shows me that I am using both pairs, about 75/10 reported. This was a upgrade to service, I previously had 40/5 service, so maybe the c3000z doesn't respond in the way that my old c1100 did? Thanks for the help in advance,

Centurylink Fiber Vs Suddenlink

$

Hello everyone. I have a general question, and this question is for those of you who have centurylink fiber 40-100mb. I am currently buying a house and moving in the first of Aug. My choices for internet are Centurylink Fiber which they offer me 25, 40 and 100mb. The other choice is Suddenlink and I can get 50mb (capped at 250gb) and 100 and 150mb. Now, I have had suddenlink in the past, and I always got my speeds. And currently I have Xfinity where I live now and its been pretty rock solid. Always good service and I am paying 39.99 for 150mb+ internet. However I do some casual gaming, and some of the servers I played on had some really high pings. And pings were 70ms on average to a server based in the Central US and I was still living here in AR just a different part. Oh one more thing I am moving to Austin, AR (Central US) Now what puzzled me is, my friend who lives on the east coast who had xfinity, got a 35ms ping to the server, Crazy since hes further away. So I did a tracert and it was unbelievable the amount of hops it took on Suddenlinks network to get to that server. Now the other thing is, Im on a tight budget, Im sure some of you know how that is. I already own a Zoom Docsis 3.0 modem and an Onhub wireless router. For Suddenlink the price is going to be 54.99 including tax for internet. If I go with Centurylink its 60.00 to get the promotion for 100mb + 150 rewards card, 60.00 for tech install and either 10/month to rent modem, and or buy it for one time purchase of 150.00. So it seems upfront the cost is a little more with centurylink. Also.. My buddy has Centurylink bonded 25mb and he said its a pain in the ass to put the modem in bridge mode to use his own router. I am curious to everyones opinion and input for this route as I am having a hard time. I am curious to know hows your service been specifically with the fiber, hows the latency and what kind of Modem/router they will give me and how much trouble it will be to use my onhub instead. Also what kind of upload speed could I expect to get with the 100mb fiber. With suddenlinks 100mb its going to be 7.5-10mb. I do run a plex server but its just for myself for when Im on lunch at work. So need a minimum of 5mb. I appreciate anyone's input. Also if there are any grammar or spelling errors, it's been a long day lol.

Bonded Service?

How do you tell if you can get bonded service? They are running a phone line from a road up where they just installed fiber and a mini dslam about 1 mile away, to my house. I talked to someone online and they have no idea if i can get bonded or not. Not sure if there is a good place to look or someone knows?

Two Questions: Speed Test and CL Router

$

Hello, 1) I just got FTTH Gigabit with Century Link today, after being tired of Comcast's high priced gigabit that I started to need to pay $50 for no data cap. Love the price, but I am seeing a huge difference between what speed DSLReports is giving me, and Ookla Speedtest is giving me. I've attached both of the results. Is this normal? 2) I also talked to the installer about not wanting their "modem" (as he called it), as I read up on it being just a router. My Linksys has PPPoE and VLAN, so I wanted to use that, but he insisted I had to use their modem. So he installed it and then connected the router to it as well. After he left, I disconnected the CL ROUTER, put mine on, made a few changes in settings, done. I then go the the Century Link office we have here to return their router. He tells me I have to mail it and gave me a shipping slip, saying my tracking slip will be my proof. I was pretty upset. Could always go into Comcast's service centers and just switch stuff out. Going to chat with them and make sure they know how things played out so I don't get billed for renting their router. Anyone have experience returning CL their equipment and still being charged? If so, what do you do? Thank you!

Help Bridging a C2000T

I have read every forum post I can find and I have called CenturyLink but I still can't get internet access through the router I'm trying to connect to my C2000T modem. Here is what I did: -changed my modem's IP address to 192.168.0.254 so I can access it later -made a not ofe my broadband settings -set my modem to transparent bridging 8/35 on the WAN page (I've confirmed that 8/35 is correct with CenturyLink) -once I do this DSL1 and DSL2 show connected but the internet shows disconnected and the modem status screen -at times once I do this step above I completely lose the ability to connect to my modem even when directly connected and I am unable to complete the rest of the procedure below -manually set broadband settings to what was indicated below auto-select before enabling bridging -turn off the wireless radio -connect the WAN port on my router to the #1 LAN port on the modem -set up the router to login in via PPPoE using the username and password given to me by CenturyLink (my username and password are the same which I find odd) -finish setting up the router -router never establishes internet connection I've tried 3 times now. Each time I keep having to reset the modem to get it working again. I end up losing the ability to connect to it. I've tried connecting the modem to a LAN port on the router and connecting another LAN port on the router to the router's WAN port. This worked the first time I tried but not since then. I called CenturyLink and they were no real help. Any help is appreciated. Chris

Many retrains

A few months ago I upgraded my Centurylink service and got a new C1100Z modem. Things have been working fine, but about a week ago I started losing network connections frequently, and when I did have a connection I notice that my speed is significantly less. The tech guy had me reset my modem and that didn't help anything. He can send a guy out to my house, but not for a few weeks which is particularly bad as I work from home and need internet, and also it is my son's birthday next week and he is getting an X-Box because he wants to play games on the internet. So I thought I would check with you guys to see if you have any suggestions. Here is the diagnostics. I note a lot of DSL retrains given that this was reset a few hours ago: DSL Status Connection Status DSL Downstream: 5.653 Mbps DSL Upstream: 0.202 Mbps DSL Link Link Statistic Status Broadband Mode Setting: Auto Select Broadband Mode Detected: VDSL2 - 8A DSL Link Uptime: 6M:44S Retrains: 9 Retrains in Last 24 Hours: 9 Loss of Power Link Failures: 0 Loss of Signal Link Failure: 9 Loss of Margin Link Failure: 0 Link Train Errors: 36 Unavailable Seconds: 1867 Estimated Loop Length: 3470 feet Uncanceled Echo: 9 Transport Mode: PTM Path Parameter: N/A Priority: 0 Service Type: PTM - Untagged DSL Power Levels Downstream Upstream SNR 11.1 dB 13.2 dB Attenuation 17.2 dB 10.7 dB Power 17.2 dBm 10.4 dBm DSL Transport Transport Downstream Upstream Packets: 10351 8022 Error Packets: 0 0 24 Hour Usage: 4557.520 Mbits 316.344 Mbits Total Usage: 4557.520 Mbits 316.344 Mbits 30 Minute Discarded: 0 0 DSL Channel Levels Near End Far End Channel Type: Interleaved Interleaved CRC Errors: 384 257 30 Minute CRC: 2335 442 RS FEC Corrections: 10999 114 30 Minute FEC Corrections: 21633 705 Any thoughts? Ordered new CL Gigabit Service today...

Today I scheduled an end to my Comcast service and ordered CenturyLink $80 Gigabit service. Comcast raised my rate to $70 for 250 Mb service, and even a lower speed would have increased my monthly bill, so I'm going to give CenturyLink fiber a try. Scheduled install is on 6/25. I picked up a nearly new Zyxel C3000Z on craigslist for $50, and also included a leased model in my order (which I will return without opening to avoid the $10/month lease charge). You can't order service without leasing or buying a router from CL, so I figured this would be the best option and least potential outlay of up front cash--I'd rather try to get $10 back from them (or let them have the $10) than $150. My intention is to get the PPPOE login info and plug it into my Asus AC1900 router, then re-sell the Zyxel if everything works as expected. Comcast goes bye bye July 1st--hopefully this is enough time to get the install done and any kinks worked out. I'm a little irked at the 30 day billing cycles for CL, but will live with it as it effectively saves some money over the post-billed $85 rate. I'll also be looking out for YouTube slowdowns/low resolution issues, and traffic problems in the evenings. Wish me luck--I'll update with my impressions.

High ping at night, no help from century link

This has been going on for 9 months. I am seriously confused, annoyed, and frustrated. I assumed this problem has been occurring because of "high activity hours", but Centurylink has told me there is no exhaust in my area (even though something is happening). I have had several techs come out, none of which could find any problems. I don't know if it's because they only come during the day when it's not happening, or if it isn't something they'll look for. I have tried a new modem, made sure it's not a wireless problem. However, there are a few concerning details with my experience with this, which I'm not even entirely sure if they would even matter to my latency issue. First of all, the last tech who came here said that two households were "leeching off the line", but that he could do nothing except temporarily disconnecting them, even though they would probably recommend. I'm not sure how or why that could happen, and I'm not sure if that might be some issue related to the latency problem. I contacted CL through twitter, where they sent my concerns to the higher up techs, who monitored my line for a while and responded back "there's no exhaust", and that was that. This is a rural area, and I wouldn't be surprised if there was congestion and they were lying about it. I'm not sure why my area would have such bad congestion in the first place, at least now. People in my town hate century link. Recently a new, small provider moved to town, and a lot of people have switched. During the summer the population pretty much cuts in half since it's mostly only populated by old people in the winter, so I hoped that the congestion would go away by the summer also. It did not, and in many cases got worse. Usually, the latency starts spiking to 150+ at about 7pm. Some days it starts even earlier, and it can go from 150ms to 350ms. I have tried taking off every device, trying to see if anyone them are hogging bandwidth, but it doesn't affect it at all. Usually, during the day I get a mostly steady 50-80ms ping to most sites. It does not affect download or upload speeds. I honestly have no idea what to do since I have gotten no help from CenturyLink. I don't even know if this is a fixable issue, especially if I don't even know the exact cause of this. [att=1] [att=2] [att=3]

Modem - Does it matter?

$

I have a couple different DSL modems (C1000a, Zytel). I currently have the C1000A in bridge mode connected to my Linksys 1900 with dd-wrt. If I have a modem in bridged mode, does it really matter what modem I use? Meaning, will I get better/worse performance on my DSL line depending on what modem I use to bridge? Or, since I'm using the router to handle anything, does that make the modem differences insignificant? I'm curious because I've tweaked my QOS settings to improve my latency and prevent the line from being consumed (bufferbloat) but I still get dropped packets. Thanks!!

Modem to replace rental c3000z?

I just started with Centurylink and have 60 GB service, it's the top speed option. I have a C3000z modem, but I'd rather buy a modem than pay a rental fee. I see C1100z modems for sale and they seem to be a decent option to replace the c3000z. I have my own wifi router so Wifi isn't need in my modem. Any other affordable options? Thanks
