Area wide outage the last 3 days in E. Mesa?

$

My DSL has been up and down about 6 times in the last 2 weeks and was out entirely for the last 3 days from Mon.-Wed. Cynthia A, who claims to be a supervisor at C/L (Cynthia.Parker@centurylink.com) claims it was an "area wide outage" here in the E. Meas area. Seems like a lie to me since I find it hard to believe it would take them 3 days to fix an "area wide outage"! Anyone else notice this problem?

RIP Jeff Marlowe, Nobody to contact for repairs now?

My DSL was just down for 3 days and the time before that it was down for 5 days. I've tried chatting with C/L online and on Facebook to get them to repair it but they couldn't do anything so I emailed them but they said I'd have to call in so I tried calling and they said "NO" so I went up to the CO and knocked on the door and when someone came out I asked him for help so he tried calling them and they said it was the wrong dept. and would have to transfer him then immediately hung up, same as they do to us lowly customers! The only way I've ever been able to get anything fixed was to contact Consumer Advocate Jeff Marlowe in the Denver office who would send repair crews out the very next day but he didn't respond this time and I found that he passed away in 2017 and was not replaced! It seems there is Nobody to contact for repairs now! Any suggestions?

Is there any way to get a Gig coverage map? Looking at new property purchase in the next year and one of my requirements is Gig Fiber. Not going to get Cox Fiber as they are 30% more than centurylink and charge $50 for unlimited data now.

Unable to reach amazon.com , irisbylows alarm and others

All of a sudden yesterday i started being unable to load amazon.com (it would only lload a bit of text and nothing more) and my alarm (iris by lows) couldn't reach its server. I had been using CL DNS. First thing i did was to change DNS to something else which made amazon.com load but not my alarm or some other sites. Today the problem persists but now changing DNS does nothing. However i CAN get to amazon again but my alarm still doesnt work. This is a major problem. How to almost use any router with CenturyLink's 1 Gig Internet!

$

So I have CenturyLink's 1 gigabit Internet. One of the biggest complaints I've seen around the Internet over the last year or so is that it's really difficult to use the router of your choice with their service. CenturyLink provides some pretty awful equipment with their gigabit Internet service. Wireless-N router. Seriously? The 2 biggest problems I see are the VLAN 201 issue where CL requires you to put a VLAN 201 on the Internet/WAN port of our router. A lot of consumer routers don't support this, or you have to flash custom firmware, etc. And the 2nd biggest problem is consumer routers not being able to download up to the full gigabit speed. Some routers cap out at 300Mbps - 500Mbps. I FINALLY HAVE FOUND THE SOLUTION! Between the 2 problems mentioned above, my steps below completely solve th VLAN 201 issue. Now I'm not a networking person, so maybe this seems pretty obvious to some of you. However, over my last year of research, I have not seen this mentioned anywhere on the Internet. I finally found this info on DD-WRT forum website by someone who goes by the username "JAMESMTL." He suggested to a user "why don't you just buy a managed switch and create a VLAN 201 on it." I seriously thought to myself, "is that all it takes to finally fix this VLAN 201 issue once and for all?" Absolutely! So here's the switch I bought off of Amazon "NETGEAR ProSAFE GS105Ev2 5-Port Gigabit Web Managed (Plus) Switch (GS105Ev2)" I got it for roughly $40. Once I got the switch in the mail, it was pretty much just configuring the switch with VLANs 201 on ports 1 and 2. This way the managed switch handles the VLAN 201 issue and then you can almost use any router you want with your CenturyLink service! Keep in mind, I think you will still have to have a pretty new and kick-butt router, because the router needs to have decent hardware so it can download almost gigabit speeds. I think it's called "NAT acceleration?" From what I've leared online over the last year or so, some routers write their firmware to take advance of this. It's a mixture of hardware/software. If you're going to try and use an old router from a couple years ago, you may run into the 2nd biggest problem I've mentioned above. Your router may cap out download speeds of 300Mbps - 500Mbps. 2 routers I have tested behind my managed switch, are Asus AC3100 and the Netgear Orbi that just came out last month. Both routers performed excellent in speed tests! I was able to achieve 900+Mbps. Now on to the good stuff! Configuring the Netgear ProSafe GS105Ev2! -------------------===============------------------- In a nutshell, this is essentially how your network is going to setup with the managed switch: switch port 1 -> The ethernet cord going from your ONT box is to be plugged into port 1 on the managed switch. switch port 2 -> The ethernet cord going from port 2 of the managed switch will plug into the WAN (or Internet) port on the back of your router. switch port 3 -> The ethernet cord going from port 3 should plug into your computer's Ethernet port so you can access the switch's admin panel to configure it. STEPS TO CONFIGURE THE SWITCH WITH VLAN 201: So what you're going to do is open the Netgear Utility program to manage this switch. 1. Disable DHCP on the switch, as your router will be handling DHCP. You'll do this by clicking on 'IP Settings' after the utility program discovers your switch. 2. Make sure the switch is on the same subnet as your router. My default router's gateway is 192.168.1.1, therefore, after I disabled DHCP on the switch, the Netgear utility program assigned the switch an IP address of 192.168.1.15. Perfect! Now the Netgear switch is on the same IP subnet as my router. Apply the settings! Now it's time to go into the switch and configure it! 3. Click the VLAN tab in the Netgear configuration utility program. 4. Click on 802.1Q 5. Click on 'Advanced' 6. Enable Advanced 802.1Q 7. Create a VLAN ID with the value '201' 8. Now click on the 'VLAN Membership' link on the left-hand side. 9. In the 'VLAN Identifier' drop-down list, select 201 10. Click on the white box right below 01 port until the letter 'T' is displayed. (T stands for 'tagged.' Port 1 is going to be 201 Tagged.) 11. Click on the white box right below 02 port until the letter 'U' is displayed. (U stands for 'untagged.' Port 2 is going to be 201 Untagged.) 12. Click on the white boxes below the rest of the ports (ports 3, 4, and 5) until there is nothing displayed in the boxes. 13. Click 'Apply' to save your changes. 14. Finally, click 'port PVID' on the left-hand side. 15. Put a check-mark next to Port 01 and Port 02. Assign them both a PVID of 201. Click 'Apply' to save your changes. 16. Configure your home router with your CenturyLink's PPPoE credentials. You can get this info by calling CenturyLink if needed. However, most of us should have received this info from our technician when they installed our Internet. Once you do this, your Internet light on your router should turn green (or whatever color it turns to indicate it's receiving a good Internet connection!) 17. Now disconnect the ethernet cord going from port 3 of the switch to your computer. You now need to plug an ethernet cord into your desktop's LAN port and plug the other end into a port on the back of your router (your desktop needs Internet access after all!) 18. (Optional Step) If you want to be able to access the Netgear's admin panel later on in case you ever need to make changes, then plug an Ethernet cord into port 3 on the back of your managed switch, and plug the other end of ethernet cord into a free port on the back of your router. REMINDER!: If you are using a router that does by chance allow you to set a VLAN 201 on the WAN/Internet port (like a lot of Asus routers) don't forget to go and remove that now! Your managed switch will be handling the VLAN 201 tagging from now on :-) YOU'RE DONE! Your $30-40 managed switch is now configured with VLAN 201 so you can now use ANY router with your CenturyLink gigabit Internet (as long as the router supports PPPoE, which most do.) I know this seems like a lengthy process, but it's actually not. I want to say I spent anywhere from 45 minutes - 1 hour tops! I'm not an expert, but I'm also not a novice. If anyone has any questions, I'll be happy to answer! So to wrap it up. What does this work-around provide? It will allow you to use the router of your choice with your CenturyLink gigabit Internet service. You don't have to worry about flashing custom firmwares to routers. You don't have to worry about finding a router that allows you to creat VLANs on the Internet/WAN port, etc. The Netgear managed switch takes care of this! Hope this helps!

CenturyLink 1.5/256.. Any way to get faster upload?

I'm at my friend's parent's place in Ohio, and They have CL 1.5Mbps service It's currently at 1.5/256, but i know the line could do 512 or 896 just fine. Even 512 would make the line usable.. What are the chances of me getting CL to increase the upload? When i pull the residential rate card it says up to 896k (which is what I had in AZ with my CL 1.5Mbps line)

CenturyLink Fiber w/Prism TV on ASUS RT-AC88U in North Carolina

Hello everyone! I have been reading and researching replacing my centurylink C2100T with my Asus RT-AC88U. We have a fiber connection with 100/100 and prism TV. I'm in a HOA so we pretty much have no choice but to use the centurylink tv and internet service. I'm running an Asus RT-AC88U with Merlin Firmware 384.5. I can remove the centurylink C2100T no problem and plug my Asus router directly into the ONT and reach the internet without changing any settings. My ONT is on the exterior of the house and I do not have direct access to it. I am unable to watch TV on my set top boxes. I have read that all you need to do to enable Prism tv on this router is set IPTV profile to manual and internet VID to 201, enable IGMP Proxy and IGMP Snooping. When I do this however, I lose internet connectivity and see an error that states ISP DHCP server does not function properly. I'm very new to networking, so I must be missing something somewhere. Does anyone have a workaround or will I have to go ahead and go back to the C2100T as my primary router? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Best way to switch to CenturyLink's Price for Life?

80/10 140/20 Availability?

Hi, I switched over from Cox to CL in Las Vegas a few months ago and the tech advised I should be eligible for 140/20 with the bonded VDSL2 service and I'm currently using the 80/10 service. He said if I spoke with support that I could be provisioned for the faster speeds but I've been unable to talk to anyone at CL who seems to have any knowledge of this. Can anyone assist with pointing in the right direction to see if I really can be provisioned for better speeds?

Updated Minneapolis speed test map

I re-ran the addresses contained in the map in this thread: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r29723767-Minneapolis-Centurylink-Speed-map-Including-Fiber-rollout- (Direct link: http://www.easymapmaker.com/map/6347814ae5d946a2fcc4cd60647ca456) New map from data gathered last night: http://www.easymapmaker.com/map/cl_speed_1-15-2015 So there are now traces of gig internet in Hopkins and St. Paul (uncheck everything but 1000 at the bottom to see them). I have a python script that runs the addresses to check their speeds, and I hope to update the map from time to time to see the progression of CL fiber. ----------------------------------------------- Edit 5/11/2016: Instructions on how to run this yourself using Vagrant, Ansible and VirtualBox: https://github.com/mtdoyle/CLSpeedPhantomJS/blob/master/README.md I have included my giant list of addresses that will be downloaded as part of the instructions above. Let me know if anything doesn't work! NOTE: running this script with a large amount of addresses takes a LOT of bandwidth. Each run for me eats up somewhere between 20-40Gb of data. If your internet is capped, you might want to only use a smaller subset of addresses.

Ordered new CL Gigabit Service today...

Today I scheduled an end to my Comcast service and ordered CenturyLink $80 Gigabit service. Comcast raised my rate to $70 for 250 Mb service, and even a lower speed would have increased my monthly bill, so I'm going to give CenturyLink fiber a try. Scheduled install is on 6/25. I picked up a nearly new Zyxel C3000Z on craigslist for $50, and also included a leased model in my order (which I will return without opening to avoid the $10/month lease charge). You can't order service without leasing or buying a router from CL, so I figured this would be the best option and least potential outlay of up front cash--I'd rather try to get $10 back from them (or let them have the $10) than $150. My intention is to get the PPPOE login info and plug it into my Asus AC1900 router, then re-sell the Zyxel if everything works as expected. Comcast goes bye bye July 1st--hopefully this is enough time to get the install done and any kinks worked out. I'm a little irked at the 30 day billing cycles for CL, but will live with it as it effectively saves some money over the post-billed $85 rate. I'll also be looking out for YouTube slowdowns/low resolution issues, and traffic problems in the evenings. Wish me luck--I'll update with my impressions.

What would cause this?

I have Centurylink VDSL2 with 60down\5up connected to a Zyxel C3000Z . When it is working it works great, and speed test is showing good results. I've had a problem that about every 2-3 days, some devices on the network can no longer get HTTP/HTTPS traffic (other ports like ping are still working). It isn't the same devices every time either. Power cycle the modem seems to solve the problem. I tried adding a separate router but it did not solve this problem - same thing occurs just like when I had everything connected directly. I find that resetting the C3000Z modem (not the downstream router) still fixes the problem. Any suggestions what I can do to fix or at least troubleshoot this?

[CenturyTel] Home no internal NID for 80Mbps service upgrade

$

Our home built in 2009 for some reason does not have an NID internally. Last year our home qualified for 80Mbps service (we currently at 40Mbps) per CL. Last year had tech come out and enabled the 2nd pair to the NID outside the home. However per the tech if the home inside has no NID it would not be possible to get 80Mbps as the internal wiring needed to have the 2nd pair enabled (actually posted in the forums originally). Coming back to this situation, is there any way an experienced tech can enable the 2nd pair without an internal NID? Or are we capped at 40Mbps?

[Qwest] How to diagnose partial internet outage?

$

I've got partial internet service. Some websites load, others don't. What I'm seeing is that the initial connection to port 80 works and returns a 301 redirect, but the connection to the 443 port just hangs and times out for some websites. It's been doing this since Thursday. Msn works sometimes, yahoo is down, DLSReports comes and goes. Often I see issues where the main page of a website responds on 443, but all the stuff pulled from CDN servers just hangs. So msn would load, but all the content it pulls in from akamaized.net eventually fails. The same with yahoo, www.yahoo.com loads but the content from s.yimg.com fails. I'm on Centurylink DSL using a 3rd party ISP (iinet.com now easystreet.com). I've contacted both providers and neither were much help. I've rebooted the modem, my machines, I've reset the modem to factory defaults, changed DNS servers, but no luck. It looks like something upstream from me is causing port 443 connections to fail. How would I determine whose network is causing these issues and get them to fix it?

Price for life question.

Anyone else out there have "price for life" and not paying any additional fee's? The reason I ask is my $39.95 intro special ran out in March and when I contacted CL to cancel after the bill went to over $70 per month, they switched me to price for life, but my per month charge actually went down because there are no more additional fee's on top of the $39.95, it's flat rate $45 per month. I find it nice because I don't use the CL connection as my primary connection which is provided by MegaPath and paying less for something I only use for one PC is nice.

I ordered new service install for CenturyLink about a week ago (minus holiday and weekend) and theres been nothing going on yet. Sign-up rep advised I could "probably" get 60mbps but put the order in for 40 / the day went by without any call from the install tech (since its fiber I was using a tech) I called customer service the next morning and was told they can only offer 25mbps Install was slated for yesterday. Nada. Called again today and was told all they can offer was 10mbps with 786 up / (better than I have currently) I told them to DO THE INSTALL and worry about speed later. Looking at tomorrow. My issue is this is a house I am trying to buy I work from home so have certain speed requirements that need to be hard-line. The property is less than .5mile from the fiber on the hwy. S. FM 116 and Willow Loop Kempner TX 76539 can someone in a wizard hat Please tell me if I can get decent cable to work or am I facing withdrawing my offer on this house

I fire up 2 different C2100Z modems they will both sync line 1 at 75.616Mbps and line 2 at 58.800 and line 2 will slowly climb to 63Mbps. C2100t both line SNRs = 9 and the Ct200Z line 1 = 10.1 and line 2 = 9.3 What is up with the C2100z low line 2 sync rate? Any ideas?
