I got this little postcard in the mail the other day from CenturyLink which directs user to go to centurylink.com/getmyreward to activate the reward card. Of course the naming convention is consistent with the rest of CenturyLink meaning it is inconsistent. The card code says campaign code on front and the web link says offer code.
I put in all of the info and clicked to submit only to see an hourglass spin over and over in Chrome. I made sure no pop up blockers running. I tried this a few times in both Chrome, Edge and Firefox with same result then eventually clicked on the little bell icon for help and a rep over chat was able to put the info in through his end to activate the offer for me.
Luckily the Internet speeds have been consistent so far but their website and customer service communication inconsistencies leaves a lot to be desired.

Wondering if it is up to date and if these two units are available yet or if not, does anyone know a release date for them?

WiFi slower than expected
Just switched from Comcast to CenturyLink VDSL2 bonded. I have an Asus RT-AC68U router (stock firmware) that was connected to the cable modem. Comcast service was 55 down/5 up. Speed tests over wifi were showing 60-65 down and 6-7 up. Now I have the Asus taking care of PPPOE and connected to the Actiontec C1900A which is in bridge mode untagged (wifi is off). Speeds are supposed to be 80/10. Over ethernet I get 78-80 down and 9-10 up so I know I'm getting advertised speeds. However, when I connect via wifi and run a speed test I get anywhere from 25-60 down and 9-10 up. I would normally chalk this up to interference but Comcast was consistently showing advertised speeds over wifi. Plus the upload speeds over ethernet and wifi stay around 9-10 so I'd expect it to be lower if it was interference related. It's just the download speeds that are so far off. The only thing that has changed is the router handling PPPOE. Is this expected behavior or is there some way to get better speeds over wifi?

DHCP lease time
I noticed that Centurylink updates the IP address much more than Cox did. Every night I started noticing my Wi-Fi connection goes down and when I look at IP it appears to be different.
It just did this again last night so I reboot the router and its fine after that. I have no idea how to resolve this but what I did do after this issue was update the router settings in Tomato firmware to have DHCP lease time 1400 minutes instead of 1500. I also used the scheduler to set a router reboot everyday at midnight. I am hoping this will resolve it. The issue last night was about 9 or 10PM PST so I may have to adjust the scheduler to an earlier time to reboot if it doesn't fix it.
Has anyone else had such issues?

How long has CL been running fiber on telephone poles in Phoenix?
I've been checking various addresses around the valley for friends and family for the past several months to see when we can finally switch from COX and once and for all say goodbye to their old data capped garbage technology. Is that harsh?
Anyway I recently noticed much to my surprise and delight that almost half of the locations I regularly check now show up as eligible for gigabit service. All of them are in older neighborhoods w/ telephone poles.
Is this a new thing? Seems like a new thing. Seems like it should be bigger news. I mean I see plenty of CL commercials about the "price for life" thing, but nothing that says "Hey we might be doing fiber optics in your super old 'hood now, Grandma! Get some!"
Something like that. Or maybe they're waiting until the rollout is complete? That would make sense. Cox should be worried. I can't wait to make that call.

Unacceptable Repair Scheduling for CenturylInk in Bassett, VA
Called CenturyLink technical concerning one of two ports on my 15 mb service not connecting resulting in 1/2 speed. The tech was unable to correct the issue remotely and scheduled me for a repair technician for 6/16/18. The tech never showed up and I still have the issue. I called later that evening (June 16) and inquired as to what was going on. The customer service person could not explain to me what happened and could only reschedule the repair for July 5th. I told her that was unacceptable. She told me that the repair tech stopped work at 5 pm and that she would call them on Monday to see if the repair could be expedited. She then told me that she didn't come into work until 7pm. I asked her how she would contact them when they would not be available after 5 pm and she replied that she would work something out. Well here it is Monday and I called and finally got a Supervisor who could only move it back to June 29 8:00am. That was the best that she could do, 24 days after my initial repair request. CenturyLink has me against the wall because that are the only game in town available to me here in rural VA. Still paying full price for 1/2 the service and unacceptable customer service. Looking for other options, possible Verizon with some sort of booster.

Review of stats and errors
What do you all think of the following. One of the lines is near perfect and no errors. the DS1 line stays mostly at max speed but occasionally changes diown to 35mbit's but goes up to where it should be autimatically..
I haven't had any service issues or disconnects from the internet entirely etc. Wouldn't have even know if it wasnt for me on the modem status page.

Prism Wireless STB question
My parents have 3 wireless STB units. We want to return the modem, but to make any changes to the wifi, it requires a tech id. Does anyone know if they can walk me through the process over the phone or if I'm required to call them out to the premises?
Thanks!

Need advice on modem nodel and brand for CenturyLink in MN
Hi
I'm trying to help out friends to get a modem( preferably without wifi) for CenturyLink in MN. Looking at speed around 60 Mbps.
I assume they would need VDSL, but I'm out of touch on DSL side technologies.
They already have a good AC wifi router. If there is no modem only option then any suggestions on modem/router combo with the ability to turn off wifi would be appreciated.
Thanks

[Qwest] Please Recommend me a modem for line bonded 80/40 VDSL2 service
Line Bonding recently became available in my area, but I need to purchase a new modem in order to take advantage of it.
Instead of paying Centurylink $150 for a new one, I'd prefer to order a used one from somewhere like eBay.
I was looking at the Technicolor C2100T and see they go for about $50. Should I consider something else, or is this a good modem?

Safe to use CenturyLink DNS servers?
I am using the CenturyLink DNS servers and have gotten information back from a DNS program that these particular servers are low security and more likely to be spoofed.
I looked at some videos of ARP poisoning and see that it appears that this has to be done locally such as on router DNS settings. I have my router set to local access only and don't see this as a problem.
So taking the router out of the equation, what sort of tricks are possible using these DNS servers? If I type in facebook.com can I get redirected to a copycat facebook page?

[Qwest] Phoenix routing upgrade
I switched to CenturyLink from Cox a couple months ago. I had both ISPs active for a bit, and I did some comparisons between them. One thing that stood out was that in my area (Phoenix), Cox had a better route onto Level3 than CL even though CL bought Level3.
For example, CenturyLink routed Phoenix -> LA -> Denver to get onto Level3 in Toronto:
Tracing route to sierrachart.com [204.15.192.108]over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms modem.Home [192.168.0.1] 2 9 ms 8 ms 8 ms phnx-dsl-gw67.phnx.qwest.net [67.40.227.67] 3 8 ms 8 ms 8 ms phnx-agw1.inet.qwest.net [75.160.238.17] 4 19 ms 19 ms 19 ms los-brdr-02.inet.qwest.net [67.14.102.226] 5 * 18 ms 18 ms 63-235-41-122.dia.static.qwest.net [63.235.41.122] 6 82 ms 82 ms 82 ms ae-0-11.bar2.Toronto1.Level3.net [4.69.151.242] 7 75 ms 75 ms 74 ms 4.31.208.162 8 75 ms 74 ms 74 ms po-10.core01.tor1.prioritycolo.com [204.11.48.138] 9 75 ms 75 ms 74 ms te-1-1.dist01.tor1.prioritycolo.com [204.11.48.133] 10 75 ms 74 ms 74 ms sierrachart.com [204.15.192.108]
Whereas Cox hopped onto Level3 in Phoenix:
Tracing route to sierrachart.com [204.15.192.108]over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.1.1 2 8 ms 7 ms 13 ms 10.36.96.1 3 38 ms 23 ms 9 ms 100.127.73.132 4 31 ms 12 ms 9 ms 100.120.100.6 5 13 ms 11 ms 32 ms lag-194.bear1.Phoenix1.Level3.net [4.31.188.61] 6 67 ms 68 ms 69 ms ae-0-11.bar2.Toronto1.Level3.net [4.69.151.242] 7 63 ms 66 ms 63 ms 4.31.208.162 8 64 ms 65 ms 65 ms po-10.core01.tor1.prioritycolo.com [204.11.48.138] 9 67 ms 64 ms 64 ms te-1-1.dist01.tor1.prioritycolo.com [204.11.48.133] 10 64 ms 62 ms 63 ms sierrachart.com [204.15.192.108]
Last night my internet connection went down for a few minutes, and when it came back up I noticed latency to my old first hop had doubled. Lo and behold, CL has a new route:
Tracing route to sierrachart.com [204.15.192.108]over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.0.1 2 9 ms 9 ms 9 ms phn4-dsl-gw01.phn4.qwest.net [71.32.112.1] 3 10 ms 9 ms 10 ms 71-32-113-1.phn4.qwest.net [71.32.113.1] 4 9 ms 10 ms 10 ms 209.181.128.2 5 69 ms 69 ms 70 ms ae-0-11.bar2.Toronto1.Level3.net [4.69.151.242] 6 63 ms 62 ms 67 ms 4.31.208.162 7 93 ms 62 ms 61 ms po-10.core01.tor1.prioritycolo.com [204.11.48.138] 8 62 ms 61 ms 62 ms te-1-1.dist01.tor1.prioritycolo.com [204.11.48.133] 9 61 ms 62 ms 62 ms sierrachart.com [204.15.192.108]
There's no DNS hint for where 209.181.128.2 is, but the ASN is registered to "CENTURYLINK-US-LEGACY-QWEST - Qwest Communications Company, LLC, US"
So thank you, CenturyLink, for improving the Qwest/Level3 interconnect.

Reminder! Complete My CenturyLink Registration Today
I just got an email from Centurylink with this text. No, it isn't a phishing page but its from Centurylink.
"We noticed you may not have completed your My CenturyLink Profile. "
Apparently, they believe that I haven't registered for online access yet even after paying two bills online with my registered account and getting an adjustment credit for the modem return.
Why is this company so dysfunctional when it comes to communications? Maybe I should request another reward card or better yet ten or twenty reward cards since they don't seem to know what is going on.

[CenturyTel] Reality check please
Will try and keep this short.......
Living in Rio Rancho, NM, fortunate to have serving equipment across the street. Have CL 140/20 service; works great.
Saw a lot of activity at the enclosure the past few weeks, so went over, wondering if they were up to any good. Turned out they were replacing a shelf at the time. Asked about higher speeds. The tech said, sure, several gig customers on this street. (!!!). He did provide a caveat that he works on transport, so doesn't actually do work at customer homes.
So after a few calls, I was told today that VDSL2 equipment has been *removed* from my street, likely in preparation for fiber. I'm supposedly the only home on the street with VDSL2 service at this point. Being suspicious of the validity of any of this, I checked available services at a few neighboring homes. All of them were only showing 7MB service available, which I was told would be the case by the last rep I spoke with.
So, in your experience, does any of this pass the sniff test? I've been pondering Cable One for their ridiculously priced 1GB service. If there's hope for fiber from CL, I'll wait.
Would love to think that fiber is coming, but I work in Telco field, so know how often customer service and field techs get it wrong (their intentions are good, just bad info conveyed to them).
Thanks,
--Grimmwit
