Hi,
So I've been using CenturyLink for a while now, and I've always been aware of these problem, but just kind of brushed them under the rug. Then they got a lot worse.
So we pay for 12mbps downstream, and the modem has a little window that shows how much is going into the modem. I've never seen it exceed 8.2mbps downstream and 0.62 upstream.
Now this is where it gets confusing.
Doing a wired test on my gaming pc it shows 0.64mbps downstream and anywhere from 0.32mbps to 2.53mbps upstream, while fluctuating violently. My ping is usually decent, from 31 to 71.
Recently, my internet rates died, going 0.04mbps to 0.34mbps downstream and staying about the same upstream. My ping skyrocketed to thousands.
This all happened within a couple hours.
After a couple days, my speed tests went back up to normal, however I'm still getting the same crappy connection. Before this I could stream 1080p youtube with no interruptions. Now I get frequent buffers on 144p.
I haven't tried calling century link yet because they're usually useless.
I've had technicians come out several times. Most of which just did the same stuff I've been doing. Rebooting the modem, plugging it into the test socket. Useless to me. One technician looked at my NID device and and saw all the wires were cut, and fixed that. But this was months ago.
Any suggestions?
Neil
