These are constantly random, no matter time of day... Quiet network or busy network.
The Cat5E coming from the NID to my office was replaced years ago (previous owner). Its UL but not STP. Runs next to a light under the house (crawl space not a basement).
At the wall they used a RJ45 to RJ11 adapter. They fed the Cat5 up in a small space up next the heater (havent used nor will be using)
I take it that i need to replace the Cat5e under the house, get it to be as short as possible from the NID to the wall, but away from interfering things, such as lights electrical lines etc....
Are these normal?
I had to reboot this morning again. I was getting 1Mbps or less for a couple hours and nobody was on. After reboot, it went back to the speeds i usually see (provisioned so about 25-27Mpbs down). i have had to reboot three times this week.. and got fed up with it this morning. Called and nothing came from it. Said all is good.
Equipment:
Zyxel C3000z Latest Firmware
Speeds : 20 down, 1 up (waiting for the 40/3 to happen)
Screenshots attached.
Also google has helped me to find and learn what i can where i can and take it with an open mind.

Thinking about switching to CL Fiber in Portland OR-- tips?
I'm currently with Xfinity and considering telling them where to get off. Of course, there would be an equipment change, etc. and that might be challenging. Also wondering if CenturyLink insists on making you give up your plain old analog phone line (I still have one, being of a certain age) and making you get VOIP in the bargain (I'm not interested in either).
I've heard you get better customer service from CL if you don't sign up with the people they send around but go some physical location of theirs and sign up there? Is that still a possibility in COVID times?

New modem offered by CL soon?
While reading and replying to another thread on here, I've just seen a new modem on the compatible list.
Does anyone have any insight on this particular modem? Greenwave C4000XG
Quick googling returns a company that deals with 5G/wireless, but am unable to find any details of this particular piece of hardware on the FCC with the current given name.

Mobile home wiring problem with cat 5e wiring as phone line
Okay I'm paying for 25m/2m from centurylink and have been for a few years and never really worried about the actual speed before as long as I could connect I was fine. But lately I have been noticing I have not been able to really connect like I should be able to. So I checked out the internet speed and it was at like 10 or nine not even half of what I was paying for. So I had a technician from centurylink come out today and check the wires outside the house everything from the box outside the house to the main box on the corner of the property was fine. So then I knew the issue was inside the house. So I found the phone box laying on the floor behind the corner couch and I found a problem with the wiring.
The wire being used for the box in the living room is a grayish colored Cat 5e cable and the phone box in the master bedroom that is no longer even hooked up is the normal 4 strand tanish kind of color.
So I don't know which wires to connect from the wire coming into the house to the new phone box. The wires are all over the place messed up and some are so old there rusted.
So here is what I wanted to do cut back about 3 feet off the box and then stick the new box to the wall with its sticky backing and rewire the new box with the cat 5e wiring.
But I don't know what wires goes to what screw.
I'm totally lost with this. Oh yeah plus there is only 1 wire currently on the box and its kind of a greenish blue kind of color and its running to I think red but not sure I'm not in-front of the jack currently.
I have a normal (Biscuit) style phone jack and I am only using it for internet not phone. I only have a phone line in my home to run the internet.
Any help at all please thank you!

Talktous no longer responding
Hello again,
***Please read first. I have no intentions on upsetting anyone and I really don't enjoy writing this as I have other things to do. This is not meant to allow others to bash centurylink. your problem with centurylink are yours. I have posted this to have public record of progress with issues that can no longer be resolved through the chains given to me as a customer. I would rather do this before involving any service commission that would not be beneficial to anyone.***
The issues we have had over the years have usually been resolved after an email to talktous@centurylink.com (or mostly IHD Escalations people, who now say I have the wrong department). After spending hours on the phone with tech support to check if my modem is plugged in to the wall or resetting all factory defaults and trying this or that setting, I started emailing issues with speed tests logged. That was what now seems to be the good old days.
Since back in late 2014 our connection is at its best 2mbps down(I got excited when we reached 5 down with latency of 113 once), with latency being 200+. Upload speeds seem to be close to the norm at .40-.70. I sent an email to Talktous@centurylink.com on the 13th of July and have had no response.
The last few interactions let me know how much of a miracle it is to have 10Mbps here. I've also been told of the known bottleneck in Basile, La. My normal download speed at 5:30AM is .9*Mbps. Trying to check into work after hours is impossible. A lot of the time I can't load centurylink.com without finding something to do while waiting. Just in case anyone is wondering, yes, I have unplugged everything but my pc to test speeds. I was also born the day before yesterday and not quite yesterday. I now have a fresh OS install on this pc. I also check with my work laptop directly connected while trying not to drive 40 Min. away to the office when the issue could be addressed without leaving my family at 2AM.
This connection used to be fixed promptly when we could work together on it. I wish I could say the same is still true.
So, have you guys just given up? Is my only option to cancel service because this feat of 10Mbps is unobtainable? Why cant someone just tell me this instead of taking my $80 per month?
Is it possible to provide you guys with direct burial cat6 to replace a bad line? A trencher isn't that hard to obtain, so could I provide one and you guys rerun a line? I could also provide access to the easement and get dottie out, get a schedule and take off of work to allow for the pull. Are there some power issues somewhere that we could address with engineered solar backup banks? I'm willing to put up some personal capital in this to help provide what I've been paying for. I would really appreciate some sort of thought. When this connection works correctly it allows me to spend more time at home. Not much more, but enough to find it important.
EDIT*** I updated my profile to reflect that I no longer live in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Currently live in Reeves, Louisiana. Just would like to be as up front as possible.

CAFII VDSL 2 10/1 bonded.. do they overprovision?
I'm looking for a friend's parents who left CL for the 100GB AT&T "Wireless Internet" plan a year or so ago.
They usually get ~5Mbps from AT&T, so 10/1 would still be an upgrade and cheaper.. but i'm curious, as when I look at their address it shows 6Mbps or 10Mbps, so I assume the 10Mbps is bonded and they're a tad far from the new fiber-fed mini DSLAM.
I assume with them willing to sell 6Mbps on a single pair, that the line is "really" good for 8-10Mbps without going too far out of spec, so both lines together should be able to do ~15-20Mbps.
So i'm curious if those will be overprovisioned so they can get the full 10Mbps, and maybe a few extra Mbps..as I am sure this is the *last* infrastructure upgrade they'll see for quite some time.
It's been a hot minute since i've dealt with bonded VDSL2 from CL.

DS2 Attenuation 37 dB higher than DS1
Why would one pair of bonded lines be so much worse than the other? It is actually 4000kbps lower speed than the DS1 line.

CenturyLink FttH (account question)
Does CenturyLink have an account section for FttH customers? I've been a customer now for a year in a new built house and the gig fiber is amazing. Beats Cox DOCSIS 3.1 any day!!! My question is, yes I asked customer service and they are clueless, is there an online account for FttH customers? My package is the $65 flat fee month for life with no contract. They just auto bill/debit my account. I can only get on to easy pay to make any payment stuff, but no actual account. I would like to order a static IP as I am a network professional and have tons of tools and sites that updating DHCP constant sucks. When I call CenturyLink, the reps are useless and just point me to easy pay.

gpon fiber
just a heads up for anyone in an area with new fiber.

Upgraded to C3000Z In Hopes Of Getting Faster ADSL Service
Due to my location, I'm stuck with ADSL service. My 1000Z modem provided stable 7Mbps. In an attempt to improve my speed I bought a C3000Z modem because Centurylink says it can provide up to 20Mbps ADSL. Installed today and my speed has not changed. Does Centurylink need to do something at the DSLAM in order to up my speed? If so, will they give me a hard time about it?

Upgrade to 100mbps VDSL - additional line charge?
I have a tech visit scheduled to install 100mbps VDSL2 (currently on 60/5), which requires a 2-line bonded connection. I already have the required modem (C3000Z) and the inside wiring set up, but currently only have one voice line. (I had 2 voice lines a few years ago.) Will I be billed for an additional line monthly after the upgrade in addition to the DSL price (assuming a pair is still available to be connected)? The order taker wasn't sure about the technical details of 100mbps service.

Geolocation
My geolocation is incorrect. It shows me living 100 miles from where I actually live. I was given several web pages by Century Link to correct the issue and it does correct my location but only for a few days and then it goes back to in wrong location. Any one have any suggestions to on how to change my location and keep it correct. I can not watch my local networks because of this.

How do I connect via PPPoE
I got the username and password off of the connect.centurylink.com site but they are the same for each field. How can I get something more accurate or something? When I type them in the boxes for PPPoE in modem setup for my Technicolor C1100T they don't work.

[Embarq] Expiring Discount -- Options?
I am reaching the expiration of a discount applied to my service. I currently have local phone service, all you can eat Long Distance, and DSL. My Bill all in (including local taxes and fees, is about $87. (~$65 before taxes and local charges.)
I am in an area that has Mediacom, so I have a choice for internet access. I keep this package to have backup for Mediacom internet, wired POTS for dependability (cell has all sectors nulls aligned on my house.)
What retention or new bundles does CenturyLink currently have? And what is the best vector to get it? Call in, or an online web approach?
Thanks for any insights.

Line Options, Wake NC
Presently my house (in Wake County, NC) is linked to 10/1 (Listed as 10/0.768 on FCC map) from centurylink, and we have been having extremely poor performance for months now with the lockdown. The specific problem is that our network will at times spend days at a time sitting at 800-1000ms average latency, often with significant issues resolving connections anywhere (usually Server not Found), this not accounting bandwidth issues. In the past we've had issues with the line that resulted in a technician putting in for a line replacement, the ticket would then be canceled and the technician to be sent out to turn up the gain on the line. I am attaching line stats and a tracert for context on what my connection is like.
My question is if there is any options I could try to talk with centurylink about for the line situation, or if I should look into any offers by spectrum (my only other option). Both have higher speed options listed for my census block on the FCC map, but I am unsure if either of their higher speeds could be provided to my house given the only work that has been seen has been replacement of lines that were corroded.

No longer qualify for higher speed?
My address has qualified for 140Mbps with pair bonding for several years now, and when I originally signed up for my 80Mbps service I was told by the install tech that the wiring is great and that I should easily qualify for higher speeds with pair bonding. Well recently I have been wanting to upgrade so I put in a cancellation order on my 80Mbps service so I can sign up for my 140Mbps service as it would be under a new name, billing info etc. and they told be to just cancel and sign up again for the best rate. The day after I cancelled, the online tool to check what speed you qualify for dropped from 140 to 80. CTL chat has no idea why and just keep giving me the run-around that I only qualify for 80. Anyone have a similar situation? Recommendation? The cable coming into the house is cat5e with 3 unused pairs, the Dslam isn't too far away, and it's fiber fed. Everything was built in the mid 2000s so it's not ancient.

[Qwest] Switching from Residential to Small Business account
With the rumors of data caps looming, i've decided to go from the $85 residential plan to the $65 CenturyLink SIMPLETM Gig Internet plan. I've set my residential service to end the same day as the install(this monday). Hopefully this will just be a matter of grabbing my free modem, shoving it in the closet with the others and changing my login credentials. Anyone have this service? Does it have the illusive dual-stack ipv6? Or do any of you think this "install" will be a complete cluster for one reason or another? I couldn't get the good pricing without having it be a "new customer order."
