Curious if anyone else knows of an outage. I can’t run the diagnostics tool and don’t see anything showing up on the outage map so curious if anyone else sees this or if it’s just me.

New modem offered by CL soon?

While reading and replying to another thread on here, I've just seen a new modem on the compatible list. Does anyone have any insight on this particular modem? Greenwave C4000XG Quick googling returns a company that deals with 5G/wireless, but am unable to find any details of this particular piece of hardware on the FCC with the current given name.

Excited after 3 years of delays.. My fiber box is getting installed. Likely won't be ready till fall since no fiber has been stranded in the poles. But very exciting. Clearfield fsai. Much nicer than corning. you can see the conduits by the pole ready to feed the fiber aerial. :)

Asus AC2900 (RT-AC86U) router and Gigabit FTTH in Seattle

I am fortunate to have CenturyLink FTTH Gigabit at my house in West Seattle. I recently replaced my ZyXel C3000Z router with an Asus AC2900 (RT-AC86U) router. The Asus AC2900 (RT-AC86U) router can do VLAN tagging for CenturyLink Gigabit FTTH (Fiber To The Home) in West Seattle. Its "WTFast" paid subscription for special routing for games apparently benefits Microsoft Windows users only, though, since a download of a .exe file is required in order to use the special routing. This negates its appeal to Linux users, who might as well just keep using the CenturyLink ZyXel C3000Z modem/router that CenturyLink currently provides. Edit: I am feeling too surly about the .exe file to provide information about how to do the VLAN tagging for Microsoft Windows users. Edit: I deleted "wireless" from "wireless router" for what I hope is increased clarity (the Asus AC2900 / RT-AC86U is a router that does wired and wireless routing).

New Fiber Deployments in Legacy Qwest vs Legacy Embarq Areas

I'd be curious to see a breakdown of new fiber deployments in legacy Qwest areas vs legacy Embarq. It seems all of the fiber rollouts are occurring in Qwest areas. I can tell you for a fact that our Embarq territory here in South Carolina is being left to rot, and I'd be willing to bet it's the same for most of the other Embarq folks. I wouldn't be surprised if the neglected copper customers get sold to the lowest bidder ala Verizon/Frontier. It's shameful what is happening here.

Is it possible to create one Internet connection by bridging 2 DSL phone lines effectively doubling the data connection rate; i.e., from 20 Mbps to 40? Thanks!

CenturyLink Class Action Lawsuit AKA Do You Want to Make $30

A couple of years back when I signed up for CL internet, one of the frustrating problems I ran into was being quoted one price and being billed for that price and then suddenly and without explanation the monthly charge was jacked up. Each time it happened, and it did happen many times, I would have to call CL billing, wade through the menus and wait for a rep who would apologize for the error, issue a refund that took two billing cycles to be credited on the bill which usually about the same time it would happen again. After three strikes I filed a complaint with the FCC, a week of so later I received a call from someone claiming to be the VP of billing, who profusely apologized, issued a credit and gave me three months of free service. It never happened again. This must have happened to a lot of people and someone hired a law firm, a firm who realized they could squeeze a certain part of CL's anatomy and hurt Cl real badly. Now normally what happens in a Class Action is the defendant (CL) realizes the Plaintiff's has a solid claim, so they have two routes to follow, make a settlement, which would result in the law firm going public with the settlement details in a legal news letter causing other law firms to contact the attorney, so they could get involved and file more law suits against CL, or the defendant goes before the court and pleads to have the case turned into a Class Action, locking in place a set amount for every person who was a victim of this unfortunate billing accident, should they take the easy out, which precludes that person from filing a separate suit, which the defendant might just get nailed for considerably larger amount than the Class settlement amount. As such a person who was accidentally over billed has two choices, take the Class settlement of file a seperate suit, most people have better things to do so they take the Class settlement. Also if someone decide, to file their own suit against CL they are enjoined under the Class settlement from filing a suit until after 08/27/2020. Now legally I have to refer this as an accident, because I no evidence this was malicious and deliberate scam perpetrated by CL, if I said it was such CL could sue me for libel. None the less, and this is only my personal opinion, but something doesn't smell right about this billing accident, yes computers make errors all the time, but this billing error seemed to me and again this is only my personal opinion, to be too repetitive. And it was also a sincere waste of my time to get the bill corrected over and over again, which leaves me wondering how many people just tossed up their hands and put up with it or cancelled service and went elsewhere, only to get nailed with a ETF by CL. [ATT=1] Now if this happened to you, you should have received the post card above informing you of your rights under this Class Action, but if you didn't, you can contact the firm involved at the 800 number provided and be added to the list of defendants. Now I realize $30 doesn't come close to the cost of the time I lost solving this problem, but for me it's a matter of principle, so I filed for my lunch money payment, years back I had something similar happen after I dumped AT&T as a long distance provider, they billed me $1.50 for a reason they couldn't explain, I was promised many times it had been taken care of and not to worry about it, then I was Dunned by a collection agency threatening to mess with my credit, at the time we had a PSC that oversaw Telecom's in Florida, so I filed a written complaint with the FLPSC, I was contacted by AT&T shortly after filing the complaint, oh so sorry sir, a thousand apologies and the $1.50 dunning was finally pulled back, yes I could have just paid the fee and go on with life, but dang it, that would be letting AT&T roll over on me, so screw them I pushed back. It really gets my panties in a bunch when companies pull this crap on people they thing they can roll over on, and being anal I push back every time, which is why I was so loved as a tech. https://www.centurylinkmdlclasssettlement.com/Claim-Form Sincerely Your anal retentive Telco Technician

[CenturyTel] CenturyLink Actiontec C3000A for $26.40 (Delivered)

I've watched eBay for longer than a year, hunting for a suitable CenturyLink Actiontec C3000A backup/replacement. Last week, I ran across a smoking deal, took a chance, and jumped on it. It was advertised as "For parts or not working." It arrived, this afternoon - no cables, no power supply, no nothing - just the bare unit. I figured, for $26.40, if it was "not working" I'd keep it around "for parts." I took it out of the shipping box and hooked it up to a spare Netgear power supply, that was laying around. Boom! It fired up. So far, so good. Next, I saved a copy of my (working) C3000A's config file to a USB stick, and used it to restore/clone the (working) config file to my (eBay) C3000A. Finally, I powered down my LAN, switched out the C3000A boxes, and powered up. Boom! The backup/replacement is performing perfectly. I'll attach a couple of snaps to this post; one showing the initial power-up test, and the other showing the eBay C3000A replacing my original C3000A. Matter of fact, I'm using the "For parts or not working" modem/router, as I type :)

VLAN 201. Priority setting?

I have had 1 gig from CL for almost a year using the C3000A. Always got great speed test results. Unfortunately the C3000A mysteriously died and I am now using a Netgear AC 1750. I knew from this forum that I had to enable VLAN tagging 201 on the Netgear. There was also a setting for "priority" on the Netgear VLAN page. I left it at 0. Is that correct? I am now getting much slower speedtest results on DSLReports speedtest since using the Netgear: http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest/64722685 However, if I go to speedtest.net I get much better results: https://www.speedtest.net/result/9694871500 I was connected via ethernet for both of these tests. Any advice/explanations appreciated.

Abysmal Upload Speed

Hi y'all, I've been with CL for the past 2 years and had decent service here in Florida. As of late, my upload has degraded from 1.2 Mbps to .220 Mbps. I ran a line directly from the modem to the box outside when we first got service since the copper wiring in this house was poor and never had problems up until now. Any recommendations on what I should do to try to fix this? Line status: https://imgur.com/a/KhYUmyS (Sorry, I couldn't get the attachments to work on here)

What steps to swap out C1100 modem for owned C2100T

$

I have a friend who has CenturyLink. They were issued a C1100 (I forget which variant) modem/router and the Wi-Fi is abysmal in their crowded apartment complex. They've just lived with it for several years despite the internet being basically unusable at ~12Mbps standing right next to the router and falling off sharply with distance. As an experiment, I brought an 802.11ac router set up as an access point to their place and was able to get ~80Mbps, so the issue is just that the Wi-Fi on the C1100 is really bad. I used to be a CenturyLink customer, but moved out of their service area and still have my owned C2100T modem/router -- which is much better. I'm not sure if their existing C1100 is rented or owned. I was wondering what the process was to swap in the C2100T at my friend's place. I only have experience swapping modems on Cable service where you just call up their tech support and read them the MAC Address, serial number, etc. All the info I've been able to find on the internet about setting up a modem with CL talks about how to set up a new modem with new service, but there's no indication of whether the same instructions can/should be applied to replacing a modem on existing service. For example: CenturyLink has published a video on Youtube titled: CenturyLink Self-Install: How to Quickly Setup Your Modem (I didn't want to post the link because the forum auto-embeds the video in my post which felt excessive). I'd call tech support myself, but since I don't have a current account I doubt they'll help me, and my friend is SUPER tech averse and doesn't want to deal with it. I would very much appreciate any advice! PS - yeah, they could buy a new router and set it up as an AP connected to the C1100, but that would involve buying new equipment and having 2 "internet boxes" set up on their dresser in their bedroom. They'd prefer to avoid the cost and extra equipment if possible.

A family member is moving to the Sloan Lake area. Century says the address qualifies for their FTTH. Of course, their details are rather vague, so I have some questions. Are these symmetric connections? Do they have solid upstream connectivity via L3?

New development - 1/2 of my street skipped?

BLUF: Looking for who to contact about adding infrastructure to 1/2 of a street in my new development that appears to have been skipped during CL buildout. Longer version: I live in a new development in Central Florida (Clermont - Orlando Area). Phase 1 of the development has full CL fiber. So does phase 3. I live in phase 2. The story I heard was our builder and CL were in negotiations at the time, so they skipped our phase completely. Eventually some agreement was reached and CL came back and installed infrastructure in phase 2...everywhere except for half of one street, which happens to be where I live. What's worse, is I'm in the last house in phase 2...my literal across the street neighbor in phase 3 has service. I was able to get an installer to come out today and he confirmed - no infrastructure down my half of the street (the half that was built during phase 2), so I'm not serviceable. He was sympathetic, especially since my neighbor has it. As far as he knew, there were no plans to run the infrastructure on my street. The main underground box the feeds phase 3 is literally across the street from me. I'm wondering if anyone has any contacts or connections on the inside...I wonder if my street was truly skipped or maybe the developer won't let them access the common areas to install or something. Just want to figure out where to direct my energy!

[CenturyTel] Cannot SEND eMail Messages on Wireless-Connected Devices

Recently installed CenturyLink 20 Mbps internet service on my home land-line. Since day one I have been unable to *SEND* eMail messages using any device connected to the CL-supplied C1100T modem/router *wirelessly* consisting of one Win 8 Laptop, two Android Tablets and one Android cell phone. There is also a Win 7 Desktop computer connected the modem/router using an Ethernet cable. I have no problem with any function using that machine. About ten days ago, I contacted CL Tech Support who determined that the modem/router had failed and sent a refurbished one. Same result: I still cannot send eMail messages although I receive them with no problem. Today I called CL TS once again. The tech was unable to come up with any fix so he said that he would turn me over to a "third-party tech support" group. He said that he could not transfer me but gave me a phone number: 800-452-2541. Called it multiple times and reached a fast busy each time. Fortunately, I did not cut off my AT&T plan yet. Presently, I switch to my AT&T connection to send eMail messages and then switch back to my CL connection for everything but the sending of eMail. It's an expensive workaround, but at least it works! I am at my wit's end with this! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Montana Bob

Any luck on getting CL to increase upload speeds?

Currently on the 60/5 bonded profile. Super happy about this upgrade, though I am curious if anyone's had any luck - or if it's possible - to get the upload pushed up just a bit? Or, do DSLAMS ever over-provision upload speeds? I could easily get 10mbps up with my line stats, (16dB and 14dB on each line), but as far as I know CL doesn't offer any higher upload speeds until 80/10. Which, I definitely can't get out here in the sticks without vectoring.
