Hi all,
I just got CenturyLink Fiber installed in my home, and I noticed that my hardwired download speeds hang at around 400mbps, whereas my upload speeds are in the 900s, very similar to several posts that in this thread. A bit of context:
I'm using my own VLAN compatible router (TP-Link AC2300). However, this pattern of download/upload speed is the same even when using the CenturyLink-provided equipment.
I'm using a Mac running Mojave.
A tech told me that this has to do with my computer's antivirus software essentially throttling down the incoming (download) packets, but not the upload packets. However, using this same router and computer, I was easily able to download/upload the full gig with my previous ISP that offered fiber. Also, I'm not using any antivirus software, unless OSX is running things behind the scenes. Is there a fundamental OSX incompatibility that prevents CTL users from getting maximum speeds?
What is contributing to the slower downloads? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Called to cancel my CL service
The local telephone cooperative (CTC) recently installed fiber down my rural road so I immediately jumped on it. 100Mbps up/down for $50/month! It's been running smoothly for a week now so I called CL to disconnect. Rep honestly said "It looks like we can't get you a faster speed than 5Mb, but I can lower your price for life to $40/month." :hmm: I sat dumbfounded for a minute trying to comprehend the offer. Gee, save $10 and stay at 5Mb, or pay $10 more and have 100Mb fiber. LMAO

Centurylink Stated Speeds Getting Worse? (Gilbert, AZ)
Juts got off the phone with CL rep. Last year CL was advertising 40 MB/s service for my address in Gilbert AZ. Six months later I decided to pull the trigger and get service established. They now offer only 12 MB/s for the same address. Agent couldn't explain why. Any ideas as to what's going on?

[Qwest] Static IP for MDU
I have gigabit fiber through CL in Denver. I live in an apartment complex where the service is available to all residents, and I have a drop going directly into my apartment as well as my own unique PPPoE username. I pay for my own account using CenturyLink Instant (it's not included in my rent). I'd like to get my own block of static IPs but not sure how to go about this. Can anyone assist?

Big outage in Minnesota
My ADSL went down around 3:30pm CDT yesterday (Saturday) and when CL's automated system finally acknowledged there was an outage, it estimated a 9pm repair time. It's now 1:35am and still nothing. I haven't found anything online about what the cause is, so does anyone here have any info I've missed?
My service had been down for about an hour early Thursday morning but fine since, while I've seen reports from others in the Twin Cities area stating theirs had been down ever since Thursday.
Anyone have a clue what's going on?

Any CenturyLink employees?
CenturyLink seems to have built out only half of my neighborhood (new development) with dinner, the other half has no service at all. It's been this way for two years now. Is there any way to contact them to find out if they ever plan to finish it?
Tired of Cox price gouging. Had CenturyLink fiber before, very good service. Currently on Cox fiber but it costs nearly twice what CenturyLink charges to those who are connected in my neighborhood.

C1100Z vs C1900A?
Hi everyone -
I have told this background story a few times on here but .... to make a long story short, I have a very meager CenturyLink DSL connection in the new house I built , it's going on a little over 2 years now, and it's literally the only option (other than Satellite, which is not an option.) -- I have been provisioned @ ~ 7.17 Mbps DL / .576 UL for the last 2 years or so ... and while the connection has always been meager (slow- and there is nothing they can do due to distance, I built a house on a piece of land in the country, and this is all I can get, and it's too far from the CL box to get any quicker....) -- the connection has been (HAD been) rock solid for 2 years.
About a month or so ago, CL admitted to me that they screwed up while installing someone else's new service. Some neighbor in the general area was getting an install on a Thursday afternoon, and my net went down. It came back on , and instead of being my typical ADSL2+ 7.17/.576, it was like 12-14 Mbps / .896 Mbps VDSL2 8A (i think) -- I was like, WOW! But it went down in a few minutes, stayed down. It took several days for CL to send someone out, they admitted to me on the phone that a technician screwed up, and someone eventually came out and "fixed it." -- Since that time (~1+ month ago) - I have been on G.DMT instead of ADSL2+ , and my connection has been terrible. Terrible. Literally terrible.
The Monday of last week, my DSL modem was fried due to "lightning" -- completely fried. They shipped me a new one under warranty- and unfortunately it was a refurbished model of the Actiontec C1900A , rather than the Zyxel C1100Z I bought brand-new from CL when I established service with them. However, since receiving this modem, my service goes out 100x a day, and goes out every single time it gets cloudy or rainy out. Today, I was able to get an appointment for a tech to come out tomorrow. The lady on the phone agreed, it seems that someone/somehow the line I had been using for 2 years was given to someone else, and I was put on a terrible, borderline-nonfictional line. Hopefully tomorrow that will be corrected. She seems to think it's a LINE problem rather than a modem problem, but allowed it could be either/or , or a combination of both.
However, I ask you guys the question I posed to the lady, whom agreed, it's possible - What is the "better" modem? I am using my phone to post this (because no service ... lol...) and it seems like 50%/50% - some people hate the Zyxels, some people love them. Similarly, some people hate the Actiontecs, some people love them. There are posts about the "As vs Cs" modems... and many posts in-between. I am wondering if there is any consensus -- because if they had/have to replace my modem on warranty, and they gave me a lesser-model, I would definitely insist on the better one.
OK Anyway, thanks for the help as always. Sorry for the long post, always try to give as much information as possible.

Fiber connection lost - 1 week to get tech to look at it!
So, this is a new one for me. I've had CL Fiber for about 7 months now. It's been solid.
Around 4:30pm yesterday, I get a notification on my phone that one of my IoT devices has lost connectivity. I check with home and I'm told that the internet is out.
When I get home, I check things over. My router looks solid. Zyxel C3000z looks good, but the Internet indicator is cycling Red/Green. So I reboot that. Same. I log into it and it shows WAN Connected and Internet Not Connected.
Just for curiosity, I'm looking at the fiber box (ONT) and the Power lighting is green and Ethernet 4 is Green. I reboot it and it does the same thing. No other lights are illuminated.
So I chat with support and they run me through all the steps I already did and then ask for me to reenter the PPoE credentials. Sure, same result.
I ended up on a call with support who ended up doing the same thing.
So now they want to send a tech and, get this, the earliest they can schedule is August 1st. A week out...Seriously? It's pretty clear that the issue is on their end of the gear. This is silly...I may need to call Comcast today.

Denver CO Fiber Outage Documentation, from Outage to Resolution
Hey all,
I went through a pretty frustrating outage in the past week, and wanted to make sure I documented it here for folks to refer to. Please feel free to ask questions if anything isn't clear. Details are formatted best over in my Notion account, but I'll copy things here for quick reference & searching.
Morale of the story, from my perspective, is that CenturyLink support varies wildly based on who you speak with. Capturing employee IDs and referring to them during future calls seems to help the escalation process and to cut through some the boilerplate BS.
Good luck y'all!

Spoke with a Marissa, was escalated, and spoke with Joshua (eID: [Removed]).
Both offshore agents with limited access, were only able to schedule a truck roll
for 7/30 — six days away from start of outage.
7/24/2019, Evening
Spoke with Xavier in Des Moines (eID unknown). US based agent in business
support — they seem to service residential customers as well. He mentioned
that my ONT was behaving strangely, but was unable to discover more.
Attempted to create an escalation for the local truck roll supervisor to get me a
sooner visit from a tech.

Spoke with Merri, US agent in Boise (eID: [Removed]) shed some light on my account
type, and the escalation that was put through. Some kind of outside supervisor
arrives in garage at 8AM, oversees technician dispatch. Xavier sent this
supervisor an email on my behalf.
According to Merri, I have a pre-paid account, which has certain public utility
commission rules which must be followed. She was not able to perform all
operations on my account, such as running diagnostics. Unsure why.
Recommended I contact "business office" at 1-800-244-1111 to learn more.
7/25/2019, Morning
Speaking with Fred, offshore agent (eID: [Removed] ). Asked Fred about prepaid
status, he mentioned that it is not an issue and shouldn't impact customer
service. Fred mentioned that my PPPoE auth failure is an issue with their internal
billing system. Apparently, there was a hiccup in their delinquent account
detection routines which caused shutoff of accounts in good standing.
Fred contacted Nichole in COR (eID unknown) and an escalation was created,
and an "IT ticket" was created; could not get reference ID. Fred mentioned issue
would be resolved in 24-48hrs.
7/272019, Morning
Spoke with Zoe in Boise (eID: [Removed]) because my account was still not
working 48hrs+ after the timeline Fred mentioned.
She was going to check on my request, but mentioned that she was unable to
access my IT ticket information from her system and could not contact another
department for assist. This is because she is deaf and her "contact an assist with
chat" feature is not available on the weekends.
She was unable to resolve my issue, but did recommend I call the same support
line Merri had recommended: 1-800-244-1111.

Centurylink Fiber IPV6
Hello,
I have CL 100mb Fiber, How do I know if I am in an area that supports IPV6? Does anyone know how to set it up so I can use IPv6 instead of IPv4? I am using my own router with PPPOE. Anyone have a guide or anything, or can put me in the right direction? Also, I am not in a tagged vlan area.
Thanks!

What is Fiber+ Internet & how?s it differ from Dedicated Internet?
It seems that my location in metro Orlando now has Fiber+ Internet available with four speeds from 50Mb/s at $130 to 1Gb/s at $459. This seems to be an enterprise service. When I check the address on the small business site, I get xDSL with 10Mb/s as the only option (same as residential).
The previous occupant had 100Mb/s over fiber at the location, but when I have checked previously I never got anything other than xDSL offers. Just to make sure it was not a fluke, I checked the neighboring building (they never had fiber) and they get a notice that says there is fiber in the area, but they need to call to see what options are available. I also checked a few buildings in downtown Orlando that I know have CenturyLink or old Level(3) fiber and they all come up with the same offer.
On the enterprise site, it talks about Metro Ethernet, Dedicated Internet and Fiber+ Internet. I know what Metro Ethernet is, but I am unclear what the other two are. I would have guessed it was xPON, but given the service in downtown where CenturyLink is not the ILEC, that clearly is not it. I just haven’t seen them offer what seems to be real commercial service with website pricing.
My questions are:
1) Can anyone tell me what Fiber+ Internet is and the difference between it and Dedicated Internet Access from CenturyLink?
2) Does anyone know if speeds over 1Gb/s are available as part of the service offering, or since it is not listed, is it a different (and I would guess) more expensive per megabit option?
3) Does anyone know how likely it is that if I place an order, I will get service turned up quickly, as opposed to someone saying: “Ooops, that address really is not available, sorry.”? :-(
4) Finally, does anyone know if I can get blocks of IPv4 addresses from CenturyLink for it, does Fiber+ Internet support IPv6, and does it support BGP routing?
I called the sales number and was told someone would call me back (a day later I am still waiting).
I am sure I have many other questions, but these seem like a good start. :—)
Thanks in advance.

[Qwest] Future Fiber Interactive Map
Hello everyone,
I don't know if this has been posted already or not but today I got a targeted ad on my facebook feed with the title "CenturyLink fiber is coming to your neighborhood!". I assumed it was generic ad since I live in a house built in the 1970s, but the ad took me to https://www.centurylink.com/fiber/plans-and-pricing/phoenix-arizona/ .
After zooming in on the map, my neighborhood (35th Ave & Glendale) is definitely highlighted. I saw team fishel trucks a few days ago, along the main road, but didn't think much of it. Link might work for other cities too

Hardwired fiber speeds won't exceed 400mbps. OSX incompatibility?

No show for installation appointment
Made an appointment for 1 gig installation. Received automated call verifying appointment time, which was today 9-11am. That time came and went with no one showing up. The online 'where is my technician?' site claimed an 'error' even though I entered all the correct info.
If i had to guess why the tech didn't show up, we have overhead fiber in the alley, but from the pole to the house, all of the utilities are underground. The pole is on the opposite side of the alley from our house.
If that was the issue, and CL required another crew for underground work, it would have been nice to have been informed instead of wasting hours at home when I could have been at work.
I just called and cancelled the order, person at CL offered no explanation.
I heard CL wants to sell their residential side of the business, perhaps they have already given up on it.

Modem setup issues, need help with new 100/50 fiber install . . .
Back in March I had Gigabit installed. Since I have been beta testing all kinds of hardware with no issues. Today my neighbors got the 100/50 Fiber and I tried to use their modem, an Amped Wireless R20000G that has VLAN Tagged 201 capability. But no matter what, it just wouldn't sync. I grabbed two that I have successfully used on my service and they wouldn't sync either. So I told the tech to get their modem, it was still on the bill so, and it sync'd right up. And he had no idea what he was doing. The install was a hit and run. He really didn't want to do any more than he had to. My install was a dream and the Tech was armed with a laptop to check the speed. All this guy did was make sure all the lights came on. No speed check. Also my connection to the ONT is on port 1. He set up theirs on port 2. I asked what that was all about? He didn't know. So now they are up and running the CL C3000Z. I looked around inside and I didn't see anything set any different than my C3000A or any of my others.
All I want to do is use their Amped Wireless R20000G Router.
Is there a modem requirement or setting for the 100/50 service that is different from the Gigabit to connect to CL?
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you . . .

Best Way To Get New CL Router?
