I'm planning to do a new home run line at my parent's house for DSL. They should be getting 4 Mbps but never get above 2.7. They don't have a home phone anymore so I'm hopeful that I can increase their speed a little by disconnecting all the other phone lines and running a CAT 5 straight to the modem. However, I was wondering if I could get CenturyLink to replace the network interface device before I do this. The current one is pictured above and it's actually in the basement instead of outside. The home was built in 1967 and I'm guessing it's the original. I don't live there so I haven't opened it up and have no idea what the inside looks like. I know that I can contact support and ask, but I would appreciate any suggestions on what specifically to ask for and wanted to know if anyone else had been successful getting their old box replaced.
