Centurylink walled garden

I have two questions: 1. Are any of you seeing walled garden when accessing internet? Usually it's for security issues in corporate networks. CL claims my router must be upgraded and they sent the C2100T (which i see is just as bad as other previous modems CL provides) Spent hours trying to figure out why and all they will say is the (i'm adding words here) DSLAMs will be getting a software update and my current modem is incompatible. However, there has been no DSL standards update that would prevent my current modem from working. 2. To make matters worse every time i try to configure the C2100T the way i want it, whether i change the default admin password or not, it will not let me log back in. It requires a factory reset. It seems to be tied to changing the DHCP service, but i need to do it (or shall i say I am completely unwilling NOT to do it). Anyone else seen this? If it matters, i don't want to connect it until it is configured the way *I* want it.
