I have 25mbps service from Centurylink using pair bonded ADSL2+. I am currently renting a Technicolor C2000T. It seems to work fine but I don't want to rent anymore. I can either buy this one for $100 or pick up an older Cisco DDR2200 for around $25.
I know the old modem is only wireless-g but I have a pretty nice Linksys E4200 Wireless-N router I was using with Comcast that's just collecting dust. I could just put the modem in bridge mode and use that instead.
If using my own router do I really need any of the new features the C2000T offers? The only thing that seemed like it might be important was the old cisco router doesn't support IPv6. However, maybe this isn't a big deal because while the C2000T has IPv6 it is turned off by default.
Is there anything else I am missing? Is the Cisco DDR2200 reliable? Should I just get the C2000T for future compatibility?
Thanks.
