This is a 10/0.75 Mbps DSL line from CL.
When I am running a CrashPlan backup (upload), limited to 1 Mbps, the ping times soar. The line monitoring test on here goes from 60/100 (EC/WC) ping times to 200-500 ms. Leaving Visual Route running shows the culprit as the first hop outside the house.
This occurs at night, when the upload is active. It stays fairly constant from 10 pm - 7 am, so I'm thinking it is not a hig local load. It would appear to me that any amount of upload, when limited to less than 1 Mbps, shouldn't impact ping times like that, especially not showing up at the first hop.
Am I right that this is definitely a CL problem and not just me expecting too much?
