New to the forums, joined to get some answers about Century Link. We are having a townhouse built in central Colorado, and we just arranged to have CL 40mbps service bundled with DirecTV thru Sam's Club. The place won't be ready to move into until the end of this month. We used to have DSL in New Mexico that advertised 7mbps and gave us 6; moved from NM to KS in 2009 and went to Cox cable internet, in which we paid for 12 and regularly got 18 (no complaints!). Now we're in Colorado and going back to DSL, mainly because of the bundle deal. 40mbps just seems too good to be true, but we'll be finding out in a couple of weeks when we move in. So all that is background, leading to the questions I have: what's my best option for a VDSL modem wifi router? Or is the best option to buy separates? When we went to BestBuy to sign up for CL, Rather than rent their VDSL modem/wifi router (C1000A), I purchased a C1000A from Best Buy. (Keep in mind that ourinstall is a couple of weeks away.) Now that I bought it, I'm reading reviews and coming across testimonials of how bad, wimpy, undependable, impotent, etc. the built-in wifi router is. Should I consider taking the C1000A back to BestBuy and getting another DSL modem/router in its place, or buying a separate DSL modem and wifi router? I do have a 2009 D-Link 2640B ADSL modem router that I could try first, but I don't know if it will support 40mbps, even if I can upgrade the firmware. As far as what we will be doing on the network, all we will have are two MacBooks (one with BootCamp running Windows 7), an iMac, and a Dell notebook, doing Internet/YouTube and email. We do have a TV that can connect to the network via a USB wifi dongle, and we do have an Internet-capable Blu-Ray player, so we can eventually do streaming video, but we're not in a hurry to get that going. We may do port forwarding, but that is something down the road as well. Thanks in advance for your help.
