We live just east of Chattanooga in the Ooltewah area 37363. We just recently (3 weeks) had our Century Link internet only fiber installed. After a few mis steps (mostly not Century Links fault) we were "up and running". Our initial speeds were 30-40Mbps. We are now seeing particularly at night a "major" slow down in our speeds down to 2-3Mbps.
I have checked these speeds via speedtest.net by Ookla. When I talked with the Century Link tech support they referred me to their speedtest sight which is apparently run by --Ookla-- also. Century Links speedtest shows much higher downloads than the regular Ookla speedtest sight which seems odd and makes me concerned that one of them is not accurate.
But my main question is anyone else experiencing the same problems in this area and are the companies statement that this service is going to have upgraded backbone to correct these major issues in April valid. I have heard complaints about this company making these promises and they don't happen.
The service is not acceptable in its present form because of the major variations in download speeds. I reworked 2 "telco" grade splices in our Cat 5 cable to the inside router done by the Century Link install techs at our initial install to see if this would help. They did not seem to understand that pair twist and pair lay, tie wrap too tight, and cable bend radius can effect ethernet transmission performance. OK for POTs but not data.
