I have the Centurylink 40Mbps service. With a wired connection to my Zyxel Q1000Z I get that full 40Mbps. However, due to wifi congestion in the 2.4Ghz space at my house, I can only get up to 20Mbps via wifi, even after choosing the best radio channel, and analyzing the situation with Wifi Analyzer. I am considering 3 different options to solve this problem:
1) Get a higher powered 2.4GHz wireless router, to increase the signal in my house, relative to my neighbor's wifi. Are there higher powered wireless routers, or is the Q1000Z already using the maximum allowed power? I have mine set to 100% power.
2) Buy a new dual band wireless router, and replace my Q1000Z. Centurylink doesn't offer any, so I'd need to buy through a 3rd party. They say I need a VDSL router. Any suggestions on a good one to buy that is compatible with Centurylink?
3) Buy a dual band wireless router or access point, and connect it up as an access point to an ethernet port on my Q1000Z. I would keep the Q1000Z as my router, but just disable wireless on it, and use the new dual band router or access point as a wireless access point. This seems safest, since I'm still using the Centurylink supported Q1000Z to connect with the DSL. The down side is now I have an extra piece of equipment. Any suggestions for a dual band wireless access point for this use?
Thanks,
Mark
