5Mbps service going live at the end of the month.
I'm assuming copper in this old apartment building, even though there may be fiber to the curb. I'm just a mile from the DSLAM, in any case.
So I'm planning to bridge my refurb C1100Z to my late-model Netgear router. I has some questions. (I talked to a CL technical representative, and he was not particularly helpful.)
Is there a potential performance penalty for running round RJ12 cable about 15' from the wall to the C1100Z? Or should I stay as close to the wall as possible and run Ethernet all the way to the router?
There are five Ethernet ports on the C1100Z — four yellow, and one white which is marked WAN/LAN.
Which one should connect to the router — any of the yellow ones, or the white one?
Will these Ethernet ports be visible from the router so that I can, say, attach a NAS device?
Finally: Does anyone have the password to the busybox shell via telnet? I can connect via telnet after turning LAN-side console on, but when I execute sh, I'm prompted for a password. My admin password to the browser UI is rejected.
Thank you, in advance. Knowing the answers ahead will save me a lot of time and probably frustration in setting this up.
