Hello!
I've referenced this site several times over the years, always a good source :)
I am switching from Comcast to CenturyLink after Comcast couldn't find me any package that didn't require getting either TV or cell service packaged with it, and CenturyLink started offering gigabit fiber for cheaper even than my prior promo deal, internet only, no contract. Sold!
However, this begs the question of whether my hardware is going to be up to the task. I have a Motorola branded Surfboard SB6141 connected to an ASUS RT-N16 with Asuswrt-merlin firmware. I've been using the combo for years, and it's likely due for an upgrade, so here's what I'm looking for:
- Modem with no built-in router (the combo ones always have more problems) that supports CL gigabit fiber
- If needed, a new router that also has customized firmware with better security and features. Note, I have been considering an Eero, so if you have experience/thoughts on that I'd love to hear em.
Literally every single modem I've found so far that's officially compatible is a combo setup. Thoughts?
Thanks,
Eric
