After checking CenturyLink's modem compatibility list, I ordered an Actiontec C2300A through Amazon to replace my aging C1000A for VDSL2 service. Curiously, the RJ14 phone ports on the back of the C2300A produced no carrier signal when I plugged in my fax. Amazon swiftly swapped it out for a new replacement unit but I encountered the same problem—no signal. The seller for which Amazon handled the transaction even sent me a new replacement unit but no joy.
I should add that I've not been able to find any meaningful documentation on this modem, anywhere. This morning I called CenturyLink to ask if problems have been reported when using a POTS phone or Fax downstream of the C2300A modem—apparently not—though after a few more questions the CenturyLink tech indicated that the two RJ14 Phone ports on the back of the modem are designated only for VOIP phones—not for POTS service, including Fax.
Probably I've overlooked an important clue while obtaining my modem from a source other than CenturyLink...but it isn't obvious to me where that clue lies. It's worth noting, Actiontec advises they do not supply documentation for their modems at CenturyLink's request.
