Hi all, central PA customer here...
I've had Centurylink now for about 6 years, and have gone from 10mb up to 25mb. I kinda have a standing order with the local techs to let me know as soon as faster speed is available, but it's been about 4 years since they bumped me up to 25mb. I don't doubt they don't have any faster speed they could offer me right now, but I have a couple questions about the whole setup.
First, I have a Netgear D7000 DSL modem/router combo, and it works great. Is there any way I can get specific info about how far I am from the cabinet, or exactly what type of DSL or whatever I have? I'm hoping that'll give me an idea of what to ask about, if/when I call customer service. (For instance, if I know I'm 2.4 miles from the cabinet, and I have super-fast DSL, if I do some research and find that super-special-extra-fast DSL comes out and works at up to 3 miles, I'll know to ask about super-special-extra-fast DSL instead of "can I get faster interwebs?").
Second, and I know this is a long shot, but does anyone know of any upgrades coming to the central PA area that I could take advantage of? The download speed is fine, but only having 2mb up is killing me. I work from home a lot (or work at work, but on my home PC), and my upload speed is severely limiting my ability to get things done in a timely manner.
