Credit card machine over DSL/POTS?

Don't know if were else to ask this. I have a credit card terminal that does transactions over a phone line right now, but the terminal also does over Ethernet/Dsl. Is the phone line an safer than the Ethernet? I am worried that if I do transaction over Ethernet that I am more susceptible to hacking/fraud. I have multiple devices that are connected to the DSL internet as well, and half the time I don't know what others are using the internet for. Phone line does dialup? Does that mean that the credit card terminal and DSL are all on the same line anyways? DSL internet is bonded as well. This is for a family business that has centurlink. Paying $200 for coreconnect 20mbps and an extra phone line. Extra phone line is an extra $40 a month that I can get rid of if I switch to ethernet, but not if it is less safer than the phone line. Another thing is PCI compliance. For ethernet it requires a quarterly scan and for phone line it does not require a scan. Both methods require finishing a questionnaire. The phone line questionnaire omits quite a few questions that are asked in the ethernet questionnaire. I was on ethernet for 1 month with a different merchant processor once and had conflicting results. Network scan passed one day then the next it did not. The scan could not scan the whole network as well, so it was incomplete. We have since changed processors.
