I'm in the process of moving to an area that is only supported by Century Link. I've chatted with support asking what they use for their 25mbps connection. My reply was that they use a copper pair bonding for my area. So I've set out looking for a modem that supports 25mbps and beyond under a bonded setting from their approved modems list found http://internethelp.centurylink.com/internethelp/modem-compatibility-table-ctl.html .
I found the modem I'd like to purchase on the approved list, but I couldn't find it online anywhere. I called a Century Link store that's about 45 minutes away from where I'd be moving and asked if they had the modem I was looking to purchase, they didn't. I next asked if they could order me one to which the rep said they couldn't. He told me they have an exclusive deal with ZyXel for our area, and I'd have to purchase one of their modems. Going back over their approved modems list I notice that not a single ZyXel modem that's approved supports a bonded connection. :uhh: How can they only provide a certain brand of modem especially when the modem itself wouldn't support their own connection?
This left me dumbfounded, so I began searching for a modem that'd properly support a bonded connection. To my chagrin I can not locate one for purchase. I began browsing these forums for answers to find that the only way I could get my hands on one of these modems is from either randomly appearing eBay auctions, or craigslist ads. All I'd like to do is to purchase my modem before I move, and it's left me banging my head on the wall. Are the local Century Link reps being morons? Is there any way I'd be able to get a proper modem before I move?
